Default Anyone know how to fix rear view mirror? fluid inside

My XJR rear view mirror hasn't had the auto dimming feature working for a while. A few nights ago I just turned it up because i was on the eway for about an hour and was being blinded by the people behind me.
I forgot about it and left it up like that to find it the next morning with a huge bubble looking thing on the top of the mirror. I have read that there is fluid inside but nothing is leaking out. Since these aren't cheap and there is a potential to break the windshield when taking it off, is there any fix besides a replacement mirror assembly?

Thanks

I have never seen a post on this issue, so suspect it is quite rare. I also suspect it is a "new mirror" issue. As to how one removes the mirror, I'll pass on to any windscreen specialists who post here. Normally if a screen is replaced, the mirror is swapped over to the new screen.

Actually EyeDoc many fluid mirrors failed, and just as you have described. Later mirrors had no fluid from memory. There is a change over service available. Even that was not a cheap option.
If you search this site as I did I am sure OP experiences will be there.Including the removal which is quite detailed.
Good Luck.

The original company that made the mirrors is now closed. I've read that the new company that took over is somewhat honoring warranty replacements. Not sure if they are still doing this. I think you have to send them your mirror and wait for them to repair it with a gel version instead of liquid and then they send it back. Check in the XK section.

This has me worried, as I assume my mirror is also one of those that fail !!

They can fail but tend not to. The fluid got called dragon's blood as it's corrosive. Damages anything it falls on. Just replace the mirror or get an auto glass repair co do it.

Ones I know were made by Magna Donelly (spelling?).
