Default Arnott Air springs knocking

So had the XJR for a week and Ronnie drives great, but I noticed a knock from the front end over small bumps.

I knew that the car had a clear bill of health because of a Jag inspection before I bought it. So I was in my Jag dealer today picking up a touch up paint and happened to bump into there chief mechanic and mentioned the problem, he said do you have Arnott springs I said yes on the front.

Apparently a while back Jaguar could not supply factory so my dealer gave owners the option of Arnotts, he said that Arnotts are rebuilds and sometimes the pistons knock slightly the springs work ok but the knock can be annoying.

Has anyone else had this problem?

The car drives great so I think I will live with it but has anyone had Arnotts and this problem and changed them under the life time warranty?

Sorry to read about the knock. I checked with our team and we are not aware of this issue. It most likely is an isolated problem with the remanufactured shock you have. We do offer a lifetime warranty on those but that would require removing and replacing it.

We did have a knocking issue with a defective part from one of our vendors in our coil conversion kits but we caught that before too many went out and have replaced those.

We'll keep an eye out for similar issues with our remanufactured units.

Regards,

Doug

Thank you for the reply. I do not think that I am covered by the warranty as the shocks where installed by the dealer before I bought the car 2 weeks ago. They did not provide me with the invoice and as the warranty is not transferable I do not think I would be covered. As I said the car drives great and the knock is a small distraction, if it was worse then I might of thought about swapping the shocks out.

Crap, I didn't realize the warranty on these was not transferable...

I've bought them as a dealer, and installed them on cars for resale. I gave the owners the reciepts, and I think I falsely misrepresented them as having said lifetime warranty. I can prob get Motorcars of Stuart to get me a reciept, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Take care,

George

I don't think I would want to do business with any manufacturer that will not honnor a warranty for a dealer installed part to first time retail buyer.

I will say that Arnott have not said no to an Exchange as i have not asked for one but on there site it does says in several places that warranty is not transferable.

Perhaps arnottdoug may come back on the thread and clarify there policy.

I again say that the shocks work well.

Default Arnott Stands Behind our Products

Yes, the Arnott Limited Lifetime Warranty does sate that it is not transferable. With that said we stand by our products and do make exceptions. Since you just bought the vehicle and it sounds like this was a pre-existing issue we would be willing to honor that warranty. You would still need a receipt for the part (we most likely could pull it up if we knew who bought and installed it). You would then need to contact our customer support and get a RMA number. Call 800-251-8993 Mon - Fri 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM ET.

Ok so update and apology, I had the XJR inspected by my Jag dealer today by the way Leith of Cary are awesome 11 out of 10 and the knock is not coming from the Air springs, the springs are working great. The problem was some slightly worn Sway bar bushings that are knocking on SOME bumps. I thank Arnott for the offer of help and am glad that I do not need it. If and when my car needs any of the rears replaced they will be my first call. Again I apologize to Arnott for brining the reputation into question.

Sorry for dragging-up an old thread, but I have the actual problem you mentioned but found was something else.

Have had the arnott's airshocks (not remanufactured) for a year and the car is unbelievably noisey now. Started at one side and progressively got worse and moved to the other side. Rebuilt the entire front-end, made no difference at all (especially since it was done less than a year before). Put back in the factory jaguar shocks (one side completely blown out) and still the car drove better with little noise, though lots of faults on the dash.

Have had 2 sensors fail on the arnott shocks, resulting in CATS failure warning messages. Apparently a common problem, nonetheless something the jag shocks have never done.

Emailed Arnott's ... took one week before they had given me the details to return them. Advised, once received max 2 days to rebuild. Received 4 days ago, still not ready. I sent them my jag shocks to rebuild first, before I return both broken arnott shocks.

Prior to this, their service was great. Now...not very happy at all. Return shipping alone is costing me over $1000. Duty and customs for all the back & forth, another $1000. The rebuilt shocks, another $1000. So, what I have at the end of the day are my own shocks, remanufactured for $3,000. They will refund under warranty for the arnott shocks, but that $3,000 is already taken that refund into account.

Could have purchased a brand new set of jaguar shocks from jag, with installation and warranty for less and without the hassle. Sorry for the rant, but I just received the email that my shocks still aren't ready ... so clearly, not very happy at the moment. My car sounds like a 1970's corolla which has done about 500,000 km on original suspension. Not a 2004 jag, with 100,000 km on it, with all new front-end bushings and arms having covered 1,000km and shocks which have done 30,000 km.

I even recommended these to a friend who has purchased them. Shame...seemed like a good product, but I cannot justify a defect when both sides have quit. I could excuse this even and was prepared too, but now with the customer service having gone through the floor and the delays...cannot recommend this brand anymore.

END RANT

Update

Got the jaguar shocks back in the car ... completely silent, all noise and bumps gone. 100% sure Arnott shocks are garbage...proven beyond a doubt.
