One of the bulbs on the drivers side has gone out on my 2006 XJ8:

What should I replace this with? Should I also replace the other side even though it still works?

Thanks.

The Front Parking (Side Lamp) bulb. I think I've sourced the right information here:

A top cover has to be removed to get to it:

The bulb holder is turned anticlockwise to release it:

A 5W bulb required.

Thanks!

Is there a preferred brand?
Amazon Amazon
shows alot of choices, including LEDs...would these work?

Also, where did those pages come from?

Wow! Bulbs are expensive in the US.

My choice would always be to go for a premium brand such as Phillips or Osram on the Amazon link in your post. They always seem to last longer.

I've no personal experience of using LEDS in this application but they are widely sold and the assumption has therefore to be they are suitable.

The pages came from the UK 2008 MY XJ8 Driver's Handbook. In this instance the information matched your MY and LHD vehicle.

For the record, what are the stock bulbs? Are they white or colored?

Also, has anyone actually used LEDs on their XJ8? I wonder whether the decreased wattage will create error codes.

I'm also considering PIAA, anyone used these before?

Great info. I am so glad I found this wonderful forum. Experienced the same with my 2000 XJ8 this past weekend although my sidelights are in the bumper.

I am also curious about the usage of LEDs. Anybody tried them?

They are the plain old white ones, I replaced with the regular 168 Sylvanias at the auto parts store. You can barely see them, so wanted to stay stock. Others have put in LEDs and if you didn't get a message with that one out, an LED won't give you one either. They are manufacturing bulbs of all sizes now with can-bus error-free resistors built in, but you'll pay about 3x as much for them. Stick with the warm white, no reason to get fancy with those little suckers.

There are a couple of good pics, too.

Hope this helps!

Wait til you have to change a low beam bulb. Took nearly 3 hours. The bumper, radiator splash guard, fog lamps, and two bolts off each side fender all had to be removed. All this because the housing had to be removed, and two of the three bolts that hold it on are under the bumper. It wasn't hard to do. It was just too extensive for a simple bulb replacement. lol. I enjoy stuff like that. Plus, my jag was wrecked in 06, it allowed me to realign the panels better.

15 minutes flat.
Just did it to my drivers side light. It only took 15 minutes. Seriously.
And FYI, this site is great for some things that we can all do on our own.
