Careless Oil Change

Careless Oil Change
So I took the XJ in for an oil change.
Indie was closed, so went to the local Meineke.
Noticed a strong smell of burning oil afterward. Cap tight, stick tight, filter tight.
Then I noticed oil. Everywhere.
It filled up the recessed screw holes for the engine cover. Through the openings in the engine cover. All over the cover for the cabin filter. All over the side of the engine.
Completely careless. Some of it was wiped off, but it's everywhere.
What's the best way for getting this mess cleaned up?
As always - THANKS.

Another thing you'd better check is that the oil level shown on the dipstick is correct. Some of the oil change places have oil delivery gauges they set to deliver a certain number of quarts based on their manual information for your model and year. The bozo who did your oil change may have poured half of the correct volume on the outside of your engine, leaving the sump low....

I have an indie mechanic but for regular oil changes I go to the Valvoline store. Starting with my old Disco we always had a disagreement regarding the amount of oil supposed to go in. Add to that the XK8 recall where a longer dipstick was used after a recall and confusion reigns. The one saving grace is that before I drive away they bring the dipstick up to the window for me to see the level is correct. Please make sure they hold the dipstick horizontal not vertical!!!!
