Ceramic coating
My car is silver and the paint is in good condition and looks good. However I have read that ceramic coating will improve the appearance. Has anyone done this?
Firstly how easy is it to apply? and is it worth doing ?

I doubt it
I can tell you what is worth doing.
My Jag is 'platinum' too and I gave it some polish which I never do.
I used good old fashioned Turtlewax all over and when Winter arrived
I was surprised how easily I could just remove dried dirt just with a dry cloth!
The Jag looked much better too.

I just got a quote yesterday for my Portfolio. About $1600 to apply PPF to the hood and ceramic to everything else but the front bumper. The bumper has 2 places where the clear coat has come off and will require a respray sometime in the future, so no treatments there.
I'm going to ceramic the car to protect the paint somewhat from washing and waxing which seems to always result in scratches and swirls. Seems there's no material made which can't scratch paint. May be wasting my money, but at least it will be nearly perfect once.

I don't think the ceramic coat will fix any problems as it is just a paint protection barrier. A mate did his Audi and it was a lot of work to do it, sort the paint, and lots of cleaning. Oh and the car has o be dry to add the ceramic coat and the weather has to be dry for a few hours after. If the coating gets wet before its dry it makes a mess and it is not easy to get off. His car did look good but he did spend days at it.
Truth is there a several ceramic coatings that are very easy to apply, but the other truth is that the real work is what you have to do before you apply the ceramic coating. That's why if you get it quoted professionally, it isn't cheap.
Basically, you have to do what's called a full paint correction routine before applying the ceramic coating (strip washing to remove old wax, etc., clay bar, buffing out all scratches, polishing out the buffing marks, etc.), that's the real cost and hard work if you want to get the full benefits of ceramic coating.
Cheers
