It was about 18deg C (65degF) when that was taken, and strangely (to me at least), when its been colder, sometimes it’s quieter - I was expecting the opposite.
I’m planning on trying a flush and a 0w30 or 0w40 to see if that helps.

Most wear occurs at start up, many newer vehicles use 0-30 to compensate for this.
As warm as it is there, 5-40 should be fine, 10-40 may be fine as well.
You may have less racket on start up with thicker oil, worth a try I M H O.
I have used 10-40 diesel motor oil, in my motorcycles for years.
Way more detergents, & anti wear additives, the trans uses the oil in the crank case.
Not sure, but it just might help, to clean the motor inside, if it stays warm outside.

Thanks Wingrider.
Hope I haven't started a thread that pulls us away from the OP's original query!
We've already had some solid opinions from Forum Veterans and what we need now is more evidence of how widespread this cold start 'death rattle' is?
