Default Changing air filter - what a Faff??

Well as part of getting my XJ to where I want it to be i'm getting into what should be some routine maintenance.

Although fairly recently serviced allegedly I've had....

The engine oil + filter changed
Gearbox / transmission serviced at 62k

Today I renewed the cabin / pollen filter then started to replace the air filter.

WOW!!

I've read up on this, but holy filterchange???

Whoever designed that should quite simply be shot, period

ME>>>>>> DESIGNER

May need to look at modifying the box so its simpler in future, as there's no way I'd go through that again. What should be a 5 minute job, quite simply ( or not in this case ) takes forever.
As per the S type thread by Vance580

End of rant

Have you seen the video link on trimming back the curved tabs with a file or dremel?

Well I must have missed this while I was travelling. Jim is finally back in a Jag!

Looks like a nice one too

I presume the cabin filter is unchanged from the X350 to the X358, I never had a problem changing mine, it's literally a 2 minute job.

Although the plastic tabs that hold the frame around the filter are broken on mine, so i drilled a hole & have one of those black plastic coated wire-ties to hold the frame in place.

I guess if the tabs aren't broken then it's a PITA to get the frame out?

P.S. fixed your typo

Haha ... funny story, I just learned where the air filter boxes are in the newer XKs ... they must be kidding ... what is it with Jags and air filters????
The wheels on my XKR-S are painted a greyish/black and I would try to avoid mounting them to the absolute leats must because of the risk of scratching them, now they need to be removed to change the air filter??? Come onnnnnn ....
