Default Compressor suggestions

2005 vdp - Air suspension fault message. Can you hear the compressor when it's running?
I have never noticed if the engine has to be running for the compressor to operate.
I have always had a slow leak in my front passenger side and now it's not pumping up after a few months of lay up.
Any suggestions on what to check first.
Many thanks...

Just keep driving it around for a while-it may start running.
I can just about hear my compressor when it is running.

Thanks for that, The problem is that the front right is at it's lowest position probably shouldn't be driven. Does the engine need to be running or will the compressor run with the key in number 2 position?

There is a kit sold by https://www.bagpipingandy.com/ to repair the main seal for the compressor and make it run like new. The kit is fantastic.

Great post, thanks... Definitely on my list, first I would like to hear my pump run.
As mentioned does the engine need to be running or will the compressor start to run by turning the ign key on?

The trigger for the compressor to run is that the vehicle needs to be moving.

You may need to take a risk with the leaking strut.

Check fuse and relay. If the pump had been running excessively then may have blown a fuse or the relay has gone bad.

Another simple test is test the hoses in the hood that go to the struts for leaks or bad connections. Use some soap water and look for fresh bubbles

I think I heard that the fuse is the number 52 fuse in box by the battery. Where exactly is the relay?

Assume you parked and locked your car with all the air pumped up. Then suspension goes down overnight. Merely unlocking the car (no engine, no compressor) should pump the suspension up from the reservoir near the valve block. It only has the capacity to do this once.
Also, the compressor should run with the engine started and the car not moved (assuming it needs to recharge the reservoir). Not sure of the delay until this happens but not much.

I know this because I can hear the compressor if I stand by the front bumper after engine start, and not otherwise. There is talk of having to get the car moving, but I don't.
Unfortunately my suspension does not go down presently so I cannot re-verify.

If the compressor does not start shortly after engine start, or ever, of course it could be the compressor, but it could at a pinch be the ASM needs resetting by battery disconnect? Just from general computer knowledge not specifically ASM. I have also heard recently that the height sensors could reset on a battery disconnect, if they are not at the correct height which could introduce another problem. Is this right? (I don't know)

On my 2008 XJ8, as soon as I start the car the suspension rises up immediately if it needs too. Car does not have to be moving or in gear.

Interesting post, the car was in storage and battery was dead. Recharged the battery and the car wouldn't start, just cranked.

After a while a friend was googling the problem and told me to try start the car in neutral, bam the car started right up.

I have never heard that one before so anyone can explain that I would appreciate it.

I hear about all these resets after the battery is disconnected can anyone explain what I should do now?

Could this have anything to to do with the compressor not running?

Many thanks.

Estam, here is a link to some info on where the relay is. both the fuse (#52) and the relay are in the trunk / boot fuse box.

After much investigating and getting know where, thanks for the link has no mention of a #52 fuse but pushing on :-) 2005 vdp back suspensions looks as high as it will go which has been from the start and both front as low as they can go. Ended up disconnecting the battery for two days while I worked on (non related) other stuff.

Reconnected the battery and ran for 5 minutes and the only fault message came up was telling me to put the hand break on, operated the hand break button and did nothing. After hearing about the compressor only operates over 25 mph took it for a drive on a reasonably flat road for 10 mins and felt it was a rough ride. Getting back I now get two messages, one regarding the hand break and the other air suspension fault. I am thinking I need a fault code reader and asking for some suggestions, maybe something I can also use on some or my other vehicles.

Thanksf or any suggestions....

Your owners manual has a diagram for fuse locations for all three fuse boxes. Ride height is adjusted automatically as soon as you start the car. No need to drive it.

I use icarsoft LRII for my car and it works great. There is a newer version available so you may want to get that.

Thanks pkoko, have ordered the CR 3.0 that covers 3 vehicle groups but have a quick question about the adapter cable.

Where does it plug in to an 2005 vdp and how about other car groups, do they all use the same adapter cable?

My other vehicle is a 2011 Chrysler 200 so going to have to check this out.

This is a new area for me so any help will be appreciated.

They all use the same standard OB2 port (came with my iCarsoft reader) which is usually near the hood release or under steering wheel. On the x350; it is near the central tunnel near the gas pedal on LHD cars.

I am seriously considering the Autel Maxi AP200, does anyone know of this product and does it cover codes for the x350 air suspension / compressor faults?
