Diagnostic hardware (Mongoose cable)
I am tinkering with SDD 138.00 and Mongoose clone cable. Cable and soft came from one of the online stores in UK. Couple of recent forum threads and some communication issues made me go online to read up about the subject.
I stumbled this page:
How to Identify and Fix Mongoose JLR Pro Clone Cables? | OBDII365.com Official Blog
SDD gurus, please comment. I am not an expert on the subject, just trying to make sense and learn.

I own two Mongoose clones and never came accross this topic.
If the cable works with your car, there's no need to modify.
As long as you don't try to update firmware in the Mongoose, it doesn't matter what PCB or chip was used.
It only needs to implement the protocols correctly.

Thanks, I am new to SDD and trying to learn idiosyncrasies of this setup.
Lack of documentation, variation of hardware makes the learning process challenging, to say at least.

I have SDD 138.0 installed. How does one checks various modules for DTC?

Just a warning - many clones will not work properly with a 2004 vehicle. Architecture changed in 2005 and many clones were developed after that and did not include the earlier architecture.
Also if your run SDD without an auxiliary power supply you may get many erroneous DTCs

Thanks, OldKarz!
I do have a power supply 65A set to 13.6V. with a ripple suppression. I am all set there.
I seems to be able to connect to car, read VIN; run vehicle scan.
I am trying to find my way navigating in SDD.

when SDD boots up it will give you some instructions. One of them at the end will be turn ignition key to on position. At that point the software will take a couple minutes and communicate with each module on the car after that it will show a green checkmark if the module is OK and communicating and it will have an! If it has stored DTCS. Then you can go to the bottom of the screen and select service functions, and when that screen appears you can select the recommendations tab at the top of the screen, and when that screen loads up,scroll and look at all the different functions available and one of them should be read. DTCS. you will also want to do the function that says VID. Block read as that will store the programming for your car into the SDD memory so to speak. To get familiar with how things work anything SDD related to scan or read is useful to get familiar with it. and will not alter any current programming.
