Default Does the X350 have an alternator or a generator?

I was looking through the workshop manuals for anything regarding alternator replacement on the X350 XJ8. I kept trying to find it in the thousands of pages of PDF files, mostly by searching for the word alternator. I finally discovered that the manuals refer to a generator, generator voltage, etc. and not alternators.

This got me to wondering, does my car have an alternator or a generator? Surely it is an alternator, one which might be possibly called a generator in Great Britain.

So, which is it on the X350? Generator or alternator?

It's just a language difference. You'd refer to it as an alternator in the US sourcing a replacement.

Smart *** answer: Well, since widespread use of generators for automotive use pretty much ended in the 60's your X350 uses an alternator.

Exactly my reason for saying on my op, "surely it is an alternator."

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks abonano. I've been trying to get JTIS21 installed, but no luck yet. I've discussing that in another thread.

I am on Windows 7. I read of the complications with getting it to run on 7, but found several threads that led to instructions for getting it to work. The installation went fine. It's just that at the end, when I click to run the .exe file, nothing happens. The spinning arrow runs for a couple seconds, then quits. The application does not open and no errors or other message show up.
