Default Everything Failed message

My car ghost striked again today. Driving home in traffic all of a sudden "Engine system failure" is displayed on the odometer. While I was pulling over "DSC Not available", followed by "Parking something failure".

Looked around the car, nothing special. The fuse box in the trunk was a bit worm. Didn't smell like anything is burning. It was not raining, nothing was wet in the trunk. Under the hood also nothing special.

A few minutes later re-started the car - no erros, no problems. Went home - no issues.

I would suspect the CAN bus was confused - could be a short of some sort.

Any suggestions how to perform exorcism?

Most likely your throttle body. That's the very same sequence of errors I get from time to time and it's because a very small spring inside the throttle body is broken. I think it's the throttle body return spring. I've been waiting for a good week to take me in to get it replaced under warranty, but I've been way to busy lately.

Good luck,
Eric

WoW. it's not a ghost after all.

Throttle body would make sense - not for the bizare sequence of errors - but I has some instances where the car would start and then stutter - like from lack of fuel.

Thanks for the tip.

I have the same problem as Veffremov.....on my XJ 8 2003 at 40,000 miles! :-( and reading all the threads on this problem I am confused ......is this problem the 'throttle body' as per your post whiteSTr or is it to do with the 'air flow sensor' or as Bull27 said on a thread Got the car back today, receipt from the dealer says "869997 Connect PDU/WDS/IDS for download capture, application and transmission of data" "709136 Recaliberate Electric Park Brake Module, Replaced and Programmed New Park Brake Module". Any steer welcomed. Thank you.

Default Mass air flow sensor

The problems you describe can be caused by the mass air flow sensor.
It is located on the top cover of the black air filter housing, opposite, in front of, the steering fluid reservoir. Undo the fasteners and disconnect the electric plug and pull out straight up. To clean the sensitive sensors you can gently blow or there is a mass air flow cleaner spray can available that you use to clean the sensor. You can very, very gently use a soft brush to clean and then replace.
Assuming the air filter is relatively clean and the air flow cavities are properly connected, no leaks, then this worked for me and the same problems as you described went away.
Incidentely I noticed the problem got worse during wet weather or if I had the front upper black plastic cover off. It all had to do with air flow temperature and moisture.

This problem also happened to me and it turned out to be the throttle body as well once it was replaced no longer had the problem.

Same here. I had all the warning lights already mentioned on and then recently also the fail safe mode came.

Had the throttle body changed couple of weeks ago and so far no problems *knocks on wood*.
