Default Gearbox fault

After getting back off holiday and leaving the xj6 at gatwick for 5 weeks the car drove home to Devon great. Though on going to work shortly after I got the amber warning light for a ABS fault and DSC not available. Carried onto work no problem, however on the return trip home had same 2 warnings plus the new gearbox fault Amber warning came up and car seemed stuck in 2nd or 3rd with high revs. Came home and checked here and read that battery may be the issue.
Took to local garage and got him to check. Yes battery was on way out. He changed it and ran diagnostic and cleared the above faults. Great I thought.
On way up road about 100 yards the ABS and DSC came back on. He said to run it for a while they may clear and if not bring back in couple days. This I did but they persisted and stayed on. Plus about 2 days after and about 100 miles the gearbox fault has reappeared again causing me some concern. Can anyone assist in a solution - love car but not liking the possibility of few grand to get new box
Thanks in advance
Roger

Does your local garage have the Jaguar IDS-SDD to clear all the codes?
Otherwise he may not have identified all the possible culprits triggering your codes.
Concerning your gearbox, when was the last oil change?

Default An easy way to put some fresh fluid in

put on rack and open fill plug with engine off. Four or five quarts should drain out. Then go through filling process. This involves starting, shifting gears, and let it warm up. Fill up.
If low fluid, bad fluid, or other fluid priblem
is cause this will help.
If no improvement, at least there is some fresh fluid in there and it is filled up properly.

Will try that - have had to make some calls and Exeter jaguar can get it booked in for their diagnostic guy to check it out £90+vat. They may get to the root of it and hopefully not say it's the gearbox. Rang another place in southwest and the guy there after I explained what I had done so far stated that when the new batter was put in to make sure it's the correct one and that when you rerun the checks with the computer you have to inform the car that new battery has been put in via the diagnostic machine else could cause more/major issues ???

Roger,

It would be helpful if you could post the actual diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that were scanned by the mechanic. There will probably be some clues in the codes. It is important to have the car scanned by a system capable of reading the proprietary C (Chassis), B (Body) and U (Network) codes, and not just the generic P (Powertrain) OBDII codes.

One possibility to have checked is a problem with a wheel speed sensor or its electrical connector, since ABS, DTC and gear shift management all rely on a good road speed signal.

Cheers,

Don

Hard to believe IMO.

I agree with your 3 question marks!

Please post Jag details age and mileage.

Do you have any service records re g,box (prior to your ownership)?

Car is 2006 xj6 2.7 diesel 93000 miles and unfortunately no service record re the box.
Am thinking I will get local Devon garage to have a look at it.
Westcountryjagspecialists.co.uk to have a look at it - seems from website he is very good and reputable and half price of jaguar

Ok thought would update on the problem - appears the rear drivers side abs sensor was faulty causing the abs/dsc faults - new sensor problem rectified. Gearbox fault was apparently down to gearbox leak - when sump and tray removed my great mechanic at southwest jag specialist informed me oil hadn't been changed since new and was nearly solid and green jelly substance. Now all replaced leak sorted and running like new for 1/3 of main dealer cost - bargain
