Pretty sure both upstream are the same but surprised both going at same time?
I would be looking for another link? did it happen after filling up naybe bad gas? what mileage?

Read of many owners jumping straight in and replacing 02 sensors with no effect.

Hello Joesoap. Not sure if I am responding correctly - Apologies if I am not. I need to ask you: If you plug a code reader into your Jag for the first time, would it not show historical failing of 02 sensors? My meaning is that if the right-hand upstream sensor was failing 2 years ago and last year the left upstream started failing, would it not show both sensors as failing today? My code reader is showing P0057, P0405, P1646, P1647. It tells me that my 02's are 'closed loop'. Does this mean failed (as opposed to failing)? If so, should this not have set off an engine light? Shouldn't the engine light be on now if they are closed loop?

Also it shows long-term fuel trim Bank1 - 1.56 percent, Bank 2 - - (minus) 7.81 percent and all the signs that an old-fashioned and outmoded car restorer like me can easily read are that my car is running too rich, a smell of petrol at the exhaust and occasionally smoking and misfiring through the exhaust.

Joesoap, as you can tell, I am very new to this code reading business!

Closed loop refers to the car's engine control (using the O2s) not to the O2s themselves. They could be out of spec somewhat and it'd still use them (what choice does it really have?).

If the MIL is off check it self-tests when you turn the car on and if it does you've no current codes.

edit: what happened? seem to have replied to a post now vanished! (moderator edit?)
