How to disable Beltminder
I have successfully disabled the "Beltminder" system on my Mercury Grand Marquis as it is very annoying to have it ringing a bell every 10 seconds (see below).
Does anybody know how to do this on a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 VDP ?

Instructions to disable "Beltminder" in a Mercury Grand Marquis
Permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so,
make sure that:
· The parking brake is set.
· The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
· The ignition is OFF.
· All doors are closed.
· The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
· The parking and headlights are OFF.
Then follow these 9 steps:
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
2. Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!
3. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
4. Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
5. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
6. Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

Silence your Beltminder chimes
I have finally discovered how to successfully silence the annoying Beltminder chiming!
Note, this does not silence the initial chimes after you start the engine without a fastened seat belt. This remains as a useful reminder but prevents the stupid chiming later, such as when you are driving into the long private driveway to park your Jaguar in the garage of your country estate
1. Ensure the front passenger seat is unoccupied.
NOTE: the next steps (2 to 5) must be completed within 60 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition to the RUN position (do not start the engine).
3. Engage the driver safety belt buckle and wait until the seat belt warning lamp extinguishes.
4. Unbuckle the driver safety belt buckle and wait until the seat belt warning lamp illuminates.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 a further eight times.
6. When the driver safety belt buckle is unbuckled for the ninth time a single chime will be heard. The single chime is confirmation that the Beltminder feature has been disabled.
The Beltminder feature will remain disabled even after leaving the car until the above process (Steps 1 to 6) is repeated.
If you repeat the process the Beltminder feature will be reactivated.

To those who insist on being self righteous about seatbelts and chiding those who ask about disabling the beltminder chime, please consider that every state has an exemption to the mandatory usage laws for those with a medical limitation certified by a doctor. Many people suffer from various forms of neuropathy which can be caused by disease, genetic issues or physical damage. Burn victims and those undergoing or recovering from radiation treatments for head & neck cancer may be unable to wear seatbelts for some period of time. I personally experienced the latter and disabled the beltminder on my XK8 so I could drive in peace. Once I recovered (going on 5 yrs w/no recurrence) I again wear the belts even though the chime remains disabled. Others may have a more permanent disability and must rely only on airbags for protection even though they might like to use belts too.
