I really want this car....
I'm a stranger to these parts. I normally hang out in the S Type area... So, this add on autotrader is haunting me! This car has been listed for awhile. I really shouldn't go look at it, but it is just a few miles from work. Uggg. I just got my S in September of last year... Someone please talk me out of going over there...
Here is the add: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
And here is a pic of the car:

Thanks for the feedback.... The price and model is what caught my eye... I've never seen one that cheap before. There is another local dealer that has a base 2004 XJ8 in Zircon with 21k miles for 19,995.... Mileage aside, that's another reason why I was wondering about that R. A down side is my S is a Select Edition with warranty to 2011 or 100k. I'm sure that R doesn't have the warranty.... But you know what... I'm going to work early one day this week and check it out.....

Her answer... "As long as the payment doesn't go way up, you do what you want. I just think your going to get yourself in trouble with that.. Am I going to have to bail you out of jail for speeding?"
God I love her.....

Hi Jeff,
It's a beautiful car so now the tricky part is defining the limits of "way up". You could have your lovely wife help with the negotiating. That's what I did when I bought my S-Type. She talked with the salesman over the phone and dropped the payments by $15 per month.
Good luck,
Mike

I find this very interesting. The add for the car provides a free Carfax report. The report guarantees the car not rebuilt and claims no accident damage has been reported on the car. After reading the Carfax closely I now see a disclaimer that " Other information about this vehicle, including problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX." One should not rely on such services.

Here is the thing, autocheck will report problems from a dealership auction. Most auctions have a service to pre-inspect car before a sale, at a cost of course. SO, you need to take some info with a grain of salt. The inspections are completed fairly quick and it could be inaccurate. A friend of mine has stated he has seen these cars be flagged for frame damage because an auto shop didn't lift the car correctly. Remember this is an all aluminum body and can bend if to much pressure is put in one point. The damage might be cosmetic only. Either way, it is leverage to lower the price.
