Evening all,

Yeah, I know, it's been a very long time since I've been here, but I've been doing 80+ hour weeks trying to get my new business off the ground and the XJ has been placed to the very back of the queue. However, it goes into The Jag Specialist up in Doncaster on 25th Feb for a multitude of different jobs, (gearbox / torque converter replacement, PAS fluid change, diff oil change, brake fluid change, o/s/r airbag replacement, gearbox oil cooler replacement, in-op o/s/r door, in-op stereo, fuel tank strap replacement, change the fuel filter).

All of the cheaper parts I've got from my local Jaguar main dealers already, but still need to get a decent used gearbox & torque converter, gearbox oil cooler and o/s/r suspension airbag.

There's a firm in Liverpool who advertise on eBay who stock the required parts, but having done a little digging about them, I think it's best if I give them a wide birth. Another option is a firm based in Bolton / Manchester called 'JagBreakers.net'. Has anyone ever heard of them ? Are they a decent bunch ? Or are they as bad as the Liverpool lot ?

I guess there is certain naming & shaming rules to stick to on here, so just sticking to a simple "yes, I've used them and they are ok" or "no, don't touch them with a barge pole" might be best.

For what it's worth, JagBreakers.net have quoted me £325 + VAT, (so £390 all in inc delivery), for a gearbox, o/s/r airbag and gearbox oil cooler, which seems amazingly cheap.

In advance, many thanks.

Visited several times for various bits and bobs (heater pump, mirror glass, growler for my X350 and previously some electrical harness bits and wheel nuts for my X308), fair prices and friendly guys.

Good selection but I've never had any major mechanical pre-loved parts from them.

They have loads off stuff and a large collection of cars having bits removed, but as with any second-hand parts buyer beware.

Many thanks Milowokie. Your comments have given me a lot more confidence about ordering from JagBreakers.net. I'll place the order today and report back in a week or so when she's back on the road.

Parts ordered. They'll get delivered direct to The Jag Specialist in Doncaster for them to fit. All being well my XJ should be back on the road by 1st March.

Did you not consider a transmission and torque converter rebuild? We had a forum visit to Mackie Automatic Transmissions in Glasgow which greatly impressed all who atended:

I've fitted used engines over the years but have always been wary of used transmissions. Even if they come with a reliable warranty, the time involved in a second removal/refit and the further cost of fluid and filter have always put me off.

Thanks for that link Graham.

A full refurb / rebuild was an option that I was looking into. ZF themselves had put me in touch with a firm down in Bristol, but alas, cost was a deciding factor there. I've sunk a fortune over the last few months getting my business off the ground, all the while having an income of zero. If the used parts only offer a short-term fix, then there is always the option of doing the job again properly in 9-12 months time.
