Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic tool
Hi,
Can I get some opinions on this kit for sale on Ebay?
I know it doesn't have the full subscription, but will it do the following:
Give me abs and chassis codes
allow me to adjust suspension height
option to adjust the door locking modes
diagnose airbag issues
Would appreciate any info from folks who are using this tool.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,
I don't have any experience with that kit, but several of us are successfully using the one at the link below:
Promotion JLR Mangoose for Jaguar and Land Rover V138 Support till 2014 Year
The one I bought came with SDD V134. I had previously understood that V131.03 was the latest version that could be used without an active subscription to TOPix, so I purchased that version of the software separately. But after additional research, I installed the V134 software and it's working just fine with WiFi turned off (otherwise it wants to try to log on and update itself). The seller stated that V134 only worked with 2005 vehicles and later, but it's working fine with our 2004 XJR. I don't know about the V138 that the uobd2 is now offering. You should ask them to be sure it will work with your '07.
See this thread for more info:

Note that for V131.03 and V134, and I believe for V138 also, you must run the program in Windows XP 32-bit. I first installed it on an old XP laptop, then after more research I successfully created a Windows XP virtual machine on a Windows 7 laptop, and that's what I'm using now. I haven't worked on the ABS or airbag systems, but I believe SDD has that capability. I have used SDD to recalibrate our air suspension ride height, pull P, B, C and U codes, turn off the automatic setting of the Electronic Park Brake, turn off some of the annoying alarms, etc. It's the dealer-level tool, so if the dealer can do it you probably can too.
Cheers,
Don

JLR tool
Thanks for all the input. I have ordered the device that I posted about.
"Ragman" says he's happy with it, that's good enough for me!
Reading some of the other ad's on Ebay, it was hard to tell if others that bought it were successful with the installation and reliability.
I'll update when I have tried the device and software out.
Regards,
Don

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Please feel free to contact me with the setup of the software when it comes in if you have questions. I've let the guy know that his instructions are a bit dated and gave him some pointers as to what to adjust. I don't know if he took them or not to date. As a Sr LAN Engineer and have several IT Certifications, to include the VCP (vMware Certified Professional) which came in handy when I received the discs as vMware is the way the software provided is set up. I'll PM you my mobile number and email.
R,
Jason

So am I understanding correctly that for 49.99 you got the Mongoose cable AND the IDS/SDD software? I was under the impression that it cost loads of money but maybe I'm confused (I need more coffee)

This is a clone version and yes, that is the correct price. Obviously, you will receive no warranty support from Jaguar on either the cable or software, but several members are using that setup successfully.

The system I picked up is not the SDD software alone. It is embedded in a VM package that the DVDs have. Essentially, you're installing a vMware image that has an XP OS and the SDD software already installed on it. Unless you can get the .msi for the SDD, then you won't be able to install it onto your own VM inside Windows 7/8. I hope that helps.

V134 is working just fine for me but I haven't tried V138. If you get the cable and software from uobd2.net, just ask them if they might be willing to supply you with both V138 and V134 just to be safe.

Now that I'm home from work and had some time I read through all 24 pages of the "Cloned dealer scan tool" thread and think I'm going to give the "Mangoose" a shot.
I emailed uobd2 and they said they would supply me with v134 instead of v138 if that's what I would like.

I wonder if you can talk them into supplying both versions? They supply the software on burned CD-Rs or DVD-Rs, so it won't cost them much to include both discs. That way you could try V138 and let the rest of us know if it works, and if not, uninstall it and install V134.

I'm about to order mine and I'll definitely request that; I'll let you know how it goes.

A side note to the VM that it installs, before you launch the SDD software in it, set the date of the VM back to 1 JULY 2011 and then restart the VM. After that, launch the SDD. If you launch it and it's into August, it'll search for a internet connection to update the software and as you don't have an internet connection (no NIC), it won't be able to and it will cease functionality the later the date gets.
It's not hard to do and doesn't take long. I have a 500GB SSD in my laptop, so it moves quickly as well. Just and FYI

I paid the $51 USD for the expedited shipping and it still took almost two week from GB to Virginia.

Thanks for the heads up Jason! I hope mine doesn't take too long since I have a whole week off coming up to play with it, then it's back to living in the office.
I was planning on writing a How-to guide on getting everything installed and running both on XP and W7 through a VM to hopefully help out some of the members here who may not be as tech savvy.
On a side note it's great to see another Network engineer on the forums! I've been a Cisco Network Engineer for a long time now and computers/technology were my first passion before I found my Jag
