Default key fob programming

When I got this car it came with two key fobs and a valet key. One of the key fobs worked fine, but the other didn't do anything. I replaced the battery this morning and it still didn't work, so I searched and found the instructions for programming the remotes. It worked like a charm and both key fobs are now working. However, I still have one question.

The manual implies that you can have each key fob linked to a different seat memory position, so the seat, wheel, pedals, etc return to position 1 or position 2 depending on which key is used. Is this correct? The instructions say to put the key in the ignition, adjust the seat, then press the memory button. While the red light is on, press any button on the remote and then press one of the memory position numbers. When I try this the security horn chirps when I press the key fob button, and it does remember that location. When I program the second key it also chirps, but now the first key also returns the seat to the second position.

I've tried different combinations of this process, but it seems that only the last programmed position is stored for both keys. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Judging by the manual, you are doing it in the wrong order.

The steps for setting it are:

  1. Insert key in to ignition
  2. Adjust seat/steering wheel/pedals
  3. Press M button (light will illuminate for 5 secs so do steps 4 and 5 quickly!)
  4. Press memory button 1, 2 or 3
  5. Press any button on remote

You have steps 4 and 5 the wrong way round.

The manual says to be sure you press the key fob button while the red memory light is on. When I press one of the memory position buttons the light goes out and the interior notification chirps. This seems to end the programming sequence as pressing the fob after the red light goes out does nothing. When I press the fob button while the red light is on the security horn in the trunk chirps, so it would seem the car recognizes that the fob is being programmed.

I just had a play with mine and found that neither remote was linked to a memory setting but I have managed to create a different one for each by following my instructions.

The light does indeed go off after step 4 but when I then pressed a button on the remote the horn beeped but I also heard another chime.

When I lock and unlock the car with each remote, the seat etc now move to the saved position for each one.

Nope, no luck. The keys program to a memory setting, but they both save the last one programmed. It's like the car doesn't recognize that the keys are different. If I program key 1 for me and then key 2 for my wife, both keys move to memory position 2. If I program key 2 first, then key 1, they both move to position 1.

Aha! I think I solved it! I tried the following steps, with new stuff in bold:
  1. Insert key number 1 in to ignition
  2. Adjust seat/steering wheel/pedals
  3. Press M button (light will illuminate for 5 secs so do steps 4 and 5 quickly!)
  4. Press memory button 1
  5. Press any button on remote
  6. Leave key 1 in ignition.
  7. Adjust to position 2
  8. Press memory, position 2, then press button on key 2.
Both keys now work.

Greetings, do you have the instructions to program a fob key for Jaguar XE 20167? If so, can you share them?
Thanks.

Talking Got wet

FYI; Key fob is apparently waterproof! Ran it through the washer and dryer. Took it apart (you tube video helped) It was dry internally, and all functions worked. A miracle...did notice it had a rubber gasket surround. Let's see how long it lasts. BobOB

Posting in the correct sub-forum, www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xe-x760-85/ would be a good start; this subforum is for XJs 2003-2009.

I am disappointed that the obvious solution did not come up. Just buy a second Jag.
