May be checking out an 06 XJR
It's been a looooooooooooooong time since I've posted here, since I had my 82 or 83 XJ6 with a sbc in it that I needed some help on. I've always wanted an XJR and I may have an opportunity. There's a guy about 2 hours up the road with a red 06 that's wanting to trade for a truck or a sporty import. He mentions a WRX and I just happen to have an S4 I want to trade for something different. It's an AWD turbo like the WRX, only German.
Anywho, the Jag has 170k so it's pretty high miles, but if it's been maintained I'm not that opposed to it as it'd just be a weekend car for me since I have a daily driver truck. His truck went down so he bought this from his mom's boyfriend since he needed a car. Says he doesn't know much about the cars and it's too nice and he doesn't want to trash it with the work he does, so he's trying to trade it for something. I'm not quite sure I 100% believe that as if he had cash, he could have bought one of four thousand trucks that are priced the same as this around his area but who knows. Maybe if I go check it out in person, talking face to face will shine some light on why he bought this and now wants to sell it, unless he got a smoking deal on it and is just flipping it for a little extra value.
He says he hasn't noticed any issues with it, as he's only had it a week, other than the infamous suspension warning. However, it was pretty cold outside that morning and it aired up and has worked fine since. In my research today, it appears the compressor is probably on it's way out. I watched a video on rebuilding it and it looks very simple. I'm still doing my research on the X350s, just wanted to check in and say hello since it's been so long.

Welcome back!
It's all about service history.
Suspension is definitely a yellow flag.
No trans service info is a red flag.
Same if hose under SC was not changed but I'm sure with 170K miles I'm thinking both were done.

Maintenance records indeed! I asked him to see if he could get maintenance records from his mom's boyfriend, or at least see if he had it serviced at a Jag dealership so maybe maintenance records were stored in their system via the VIN or something. Hopefully he has records of at least 1 pan/filter/fluid change and the hose under the blower. I don't mind the suspension as much as I have no issue rebuilding the compressor, or just swapping over to a coilover setup once it doesn't want to work the same anymore. However, dropping a trans to replace it is surely a weeeeeeee bit harder lol

Most likely the shock or shocks need to be replace and not air compressor. Add $1,300 to your budget.
