Have an XK8 that is quite pampered. Showroom condition. Stays in garage and is used on perfect weather days. Got tired of driving an Expedition every day (for ten years) and decided to get something more enjoyable to drive daily and keep the miles down on the XK8.
Never expected what happened. Found a 2007 XJR (black) with 32k miles. Perfect condition. Had inspected by a dealer and everything great. Bought it nine months ago and love everything about it! I've been into cars my whole life and this is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven. No problems whatsoever.
My dilemma, It's bothering me putting miles on it and it's too nice to live outside but that's the only option. At 39k now. Since they don't make them (with this body style anyway) anymore, when it's worn out I will not be able to replace it. If I had space and could afford it, I would buy another now!
Guess I'll just drive it and care for it well. Why park it, sure would suck to keep mileage low for the future and drop dead with a low mileage car!
Oh well.

My late 08 plate now has around 67k miles on the clock and is driven daily.
With regular servicing, oil changes etc as required and a good wash routine etc there's no reason she shouldn't look good and drive well as the miles / years roll by.
I'm sure there are others out there with daily drivers with serious miles on them, with few issues, so relax and enjoy

I'm assuming that your're soliciting opinions about your dilemma. If my assumption is incorrect, I sincerely apologize. However, if I'm on the mark, I say DRIVE IT! Every chance your get! I have always felt that Jags were some of the most exquisitely built and attractive cars of all time. I am 42 years old and have had three different Jags in the last four months. About 18 months ago, I died briefly. Had 3/4 of my small intestines, 2/3 of my colon, and half my stomach removed. Spent five months in the hospital, two weeks in a coma and most of the time in between in bed at home. Oh yes, and the MI that removed my spark for a moment. I had never owned a Jag. I had no idea when I went to work that day that I would collapse on the ER steps and not see home for a LONG time. DRIVE IT! When/if the time comes, you'll find something else that tickles your fancy. If not, you'll spend your time searching for another gem similar to one that provides you the euphoria you experience now. The hunt is as good as the prize at times and even better when your quarry is in hand. You cannot determine what the coming hour will bring, let alone the coming days, months, years, etc... As some on this forum will attest, even though I am new to the Jag life, my passion for it can certainly rival those many times my senior. <<Removing soap box>> My $0.02 addedOriginally Posted by 2ndxk8

Wow!
Yessir Ragman. I was soliciting opinions. Guess I was just wondering how others use or preserve these cars that we love.
You have certainly been through a lot. Wishing you a very healthy future. Thanks for responding.

If you maintain it properly and well, it won't wear out for a very long time. These cars can go over 200k miles without much of a sweat.

That's like being married to Pamela Anderson and not wanting to umm put miles on her.
Plus you can always rebuild what you wear out and to me that's also fun!

Heart attack and Quad bypass in 2008. I survived, and promptly bought my first XJ8.
Now has 195K miles. My daily driver and not looked back, (actually I do look back at it alot, as when leaving the car for the store, or looking out my front window at the beautiful piece of art in my driveway) Drive it any chance you get, and in fact make up some excuses to go somewhere too!!!
Now shopping for a 2009 SuperV8 or Portfolio.
Happy Trails

I see where you are coming from. I hate watching the odometer climb. I bought my xj8 and with 54k miles on her. She now has 86k, but I'd rather be behind the wheel of a jag than have it sit in a garage while I drive a honda or ford as a daily driver.
Oh, believe me, I get my miles in on two wheels. Don't think twice about how many miles I put on the bike. Can't get enough! Watcha ridin?

Cars are for driving.....though saing that my daily commute is 160Km each way through truck roads and only ever take the jag if when the other car is in for a service.... it does make me gringe....dont like to take on the commute...also in the middle of the desert so lots of sand blowing around.
I've always used my Jaguars as daily drivers. Comfort-wise, they can't be beat and if freeway driving is involved, fairy economical. Both the S-Type I had, and my current XJ will average about 32-34 mpg on the highway. My XJ does about 24 mpg mixed, which is about 8 mpg than the Audi tank I have

I would have suggested buying another, but you've already done that if you have pristine XK8 and an XJR...
But why stop at two?
I have an X-Type that I bought with 35k on the clock 5 years ago, and I hated watching the odometer climb too - it's up to 78k already! I love the 'classic' jag look, and have wanted an XJR ever since Got the X-Type. After looking for at least three years, a few months ago I finally found an XJR that didn't cost a fortune and only had 35k miles on it. I couldn't bear to part with the X-Type, so I kept it. I drive the X-Type when its wet (love the AWD) and the XJR when its dry. The XJR is intoxicating, and the X-type seems more fun to toss around now too.
And now I find myself wanting another, and eyeing XKs when I see one!
Needless to say, my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts, but the insurance for the XJR is only costing me about $70/month - so more cars to spread the mileage around sort of works for me.

2004 daily driver passed by 90K miles not too long ago. Not kept in a garage so I did buy a cover although I haven't been using it much lately. I mainly got it to protect the interior from the heat. Only problem I have is a vibration between 45-55 that wasn't there until I put new tires on it and I still haven't gotten around to fixing that yet.
it's in great condition but probably helps being an 04. I actually thought I would not drive it as much as I have a motorcycle and a truck so figured I would put the miles on those, but I enjoy driving it so am not going to worry about it. I don't buy them to re-sell so I really don't care about the mileage. If the shocks ever fail I will probably just do a conversion. As with all newer cars it's the computer stuff that "scares" me but I enjoy driving it so heck with keeping the miles off of it, I'm going to drive it. man it's a blast tho I do need to tame it down a bit as I have started zooming in and out of traffic too much.....
