Default Multiple Annunciator Faults 2006 XJR

Apparently I have not been challenged enough with the weekend posts about water in the passenger footwell and bonnet latch.

I get in the car and turn the ignition key only to be faced with both yellow and red warning lights and a scrolling list of faults cycling where the mileage is normally displayed.

Faults displayed were:

Parking Brake Fault
Gearbox Fault
Apply Foot and Parking Brake and Cannot Apply Parking Break
Air Suspension Fault
Tyre System Pressure Fault
Low Brake Fluid
DSC Not Available
ABS Fault
CATS System Fault.

I started by checking battery voltage which was 12.24 VDC on my Three Year Old EXIDE Extreme replacement for the Varta. I hooked up jumper cables to my trusty old Chevy Pickup and read voltage at 13.18 VDC with the truck running. It did not clear the faults. I tried a Hard Reset, but to no avail. Car will not turn over. I hooked up my i-Carsoft 930 but it did not give me codes.

Car ran fine on Saturday and Sunday even after the floor was wet.

I am scratching my head as to what this is about.

Maybe water ingress to the ECM.

Check it out before you attempt to start the car. Check the inside of the vehicle and look for water stains under the ECM.

To tie into your other thread the ECM sits right behind and under the cabin filter. If water collects at the cabin filter it drains behind it and onto the ECM or worse yet the ECM harness wreaking havoc on every main and sub electrical system.

I found a minor ingress leak onto my ECM. I used marine silicone and went to work. Now, you can pour a 5 gal bucket of water on the passenger side and the ECM and harness will stay bone dry...

I have removed the ECM, disassembled and did not find moisture inside, cleaned connectors with CRC QD Electronic cleaner and reassembled. All of that was covered in my thread about where sunroof drains exit the car.

I still have the problem. The Exide Extreme battery that I installed about 2 1/2 years ago to replace the original Varta Battery that I bought from Home Depot read 11.97 vdc this morning. With all the discussions about X350 charging rates affecting battery life, I reviewed the recent thread from April about how the Exide batteries are no longer available from Home Depot. That turned out to be true when I went to the same Home Depot where I had bought the battery and they no longer have batteries on display. Following the advise from the thread on batteries I bought a Bosch Premium Power H8-900B SKU 672418 battery from Pep Boys. After installation VDC was 12.8.

However, it did not solve the problem.

The question that I have now is whether there is somewhere that I can send the ECM to be checked out?

Don B;

I Checked the codes from the Actron against the following codes from the iCarSoft i930 and there were only a few additional codes, but some listed for instruments (U0128, U2521, U2515, U2522, C1924 and U2510)and Parking Brake Control Module (C1D14,C1D15, U0101, U0121, U0401).

Both the Actron and iCarsoft i930 had P0232- Rear Electronic Module- Fuel pump drive circuit fault * DTC flagged by REM in REM. U0103 - Lost communication with gear shift control module A.

Both the Actron and iCarsoft i930 listed P0500, but it was not in either list that you provided ( attached here for review), neither was P0504. P0036- HO2 sensor Heater Control Circuit Bank 1 sensor 2 and P0051 - HO2 sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Current.

Rather than list all the iCarsoft i930 codes again here and list what I found on the two lists that you provided, after replacing the 2 1/2 year old Exide battery reading 11.97 vdc with a Bosch Premium Battery H8-900B SKU 672418 from Pep Boys that reads 12.80 VDC.

What I decided to do is pull the ECM and send it to G7 Computers, 101 Leicester Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 to be diagnosed and repaired for $350 plus shipping to them. It was sent priority mail, so I should be able to rule out an ECM failure.

meirion1;

I have photos of cleaning the ECM connectors in the other thread about where sunroof drains exit. I'm not going to try and add all that here. I do not understand why car ran several days after the heavy rain and then abruptly has these problems the morning following having run fine the day before.

Anyway, many of the codes that I got with the iCarsoft i930 the second time I checked all "roads lead to the ECM", so it will be interesting to see what G7 Computers finds. ECM should be there by Wednesday.

I ended up bringing the car to an independent shop with a good record on resolving electrical gremlins. The technician said he found a ground connector at fault. Corrosion in the crimped on eyelet. So, while I had cleaned the eyelet and the stud it was mounted to, it was corroded inside the crimped eyelet.

The take away is to not just clean the outer surfaces of the eyelets and the studs, You also need to examine the crimped part of the eyelet where it attaches to the wire itself.

I had no additional issues after that. Not long after a 2014 XJ Supercharged was calling to me. I ended up buying that car and selling the 2006. The lure of 470 HP over the 400 in the 2006 and 0-60 in 4.3 seconds over 5.0 for the 2006 was too much to pass up.
