Default My alignment shop called with the verdict

I had dropped the 2006 XJR with 99,000 miles to an alignment shop. The news was expected.
Passenger side outer control arm bushing torn out. Boots on tie rod ends falling apart.
The ball joints, tie rods, and sway bar bushings are okay. I had them installing new sway bar links, the rear had no rubber.
Got them sourcing Lincoln LS control arms. This will be close to the price to swap all the bushings. They knew the LS arms will fit a S type or XJ.

Astounding it is so badly worn, as my car is on 92k and has nothing like that, it is all in apple-pie order ! Maybe the last owner was a wheel-spin to wheel-lock type. People like this can soon destroy a car, as can motoring magazine journalists !

2000-2006 Lincoln LS uppers are the same correct? Rockauto has them for $58 each.

More Information for MOOG RK621665
Everything I see on this web site gives multiple options. It's a little difficult to navigate but believe it or not, there are Lincoln forums asking the same questions about jag parts fitting their cars. So I did a search and came up with this. Attached is a word doc. The links should work. i presume this will help with other interchange parts.

Mine XJR still is tight. Only one control arm bushing is busted. But all original are cracked. All the boots and grommets are cracked. But the ball joints and links are still mechanically tight.
The rubber being in such bad shape is surprising. Most are Lemfoeder brand.
But the rear upper arm thread is a clue. The OP said his rear lower arms were replaced at 41,000 miles. My front curved arm looks new on both sides. As the motor mounts.
I am rebushing the front lowers. Will decide on the front upper arms. The lower rear are on order. Went with Ford. The DP bushings are not cheaper enough to gamble that they will last. Guess will get the Lemfoerder for the upper rear arms. The Ford are most likely Lemfoerder anyway.
Read how to simplify the change of the sway bar bushings on the front. Is dropping the subframe the only way to access the rear?
My frame shop has a S type, and a Lincoln LS on the yard. Plus a parts XJ8. The S type had an upper front that is metal on metal. Ripped out.
I will update as the parts come in and get installed.

Take a look at the recent posts in my car diary. I just went through this. A full list and part compatibility is listed :-)

The xjr rear lowers are torque specific. From what I have been told the subframe has to be dropped for that rear swap bar, and cambo has a thread documenting it.

Is there another source for lower rear bushings? I read feedback on the DP brand that was negative. The price for all six is 340.00. I wanted to rebush mine to keep the SC arm.
My friend has a 2005 S type. It has a 3.0 liter engine. The rear lower arms have the SC molding.
I knew the Lincoln/Thunderbird upper rear work on the XJR. The upper front look to be the same also. The lower front look different.
I just replaced both belts, the main older and tensioner. Plus new pads and turned the rotors. The rotors were fine, but the pads were worn.

Hmmmmm that is quite odd, I wonderwhy the 3.0 arms are stamped SC.

Maybe they are the same?? Is it possible that your friend or a previous owner put those SC stamped arms on the car?

There is another source on eBay for the rear bushes... I am butchering this but I think the seller is in Puerto Rico. The sellers name is "justbushings" I believe. They did send out the wrong spherical Bush to me but that bushing doesn't go bag anyway so no big deal. I think I paid 340 ish as well.

Again though, have a read of the last pages in my thread. It lists all the parts and confirms that BOTH the front and the rear uppers do fit.

Default How about Powerflex?

Has anyone tried the Powerflex bushings? I am waiting a reply on cost. But at 160 GBP they are about the price of the no name From DP.
They made some for my Audi A8. Feedback was they squeaked.

So i've had another look in the JEPC parts catalogue, S-Type and X350 sections the lower rear arms are the same regardless of engine, there is only one number listed.

Maybe SC stands for Sand Cast or something else, because it does not appear to be anything Supercharged related...

I put some Poly bushes in mine, and with hindsight I would not do it again, the squeaking is awful. Managed to shut up the front end with a PTFE spray but there is a still a squeak in the rear I suspect being the swaybar bushes I put in. Some interesting info here about a special grease that I wish I knew about earlier https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pgrade-141963/
