Default Mystery vacuum device

I saw this device at the back of the right side of my SV8s engine. Can someone tell me what it is and if it should be connected on both ends or just the one end that is connected now?

It's nothing to worry about, there have been a few threads here on the forum about it. On my phone so I can't really get you a link.

Here you go. Best guess is it's a vacuum connection for diagnosis purposes. It's on many Jag engines both supercharged and naturally aspirated.

Don't worry about it one little bit

Looks like it is normal, then, l but a mystery to others too; guess you have to be a factory mechanic to know for sure. Maybe it is Jaguar's version of an appendix.

Thanks for the answers - I'll just do like the Beetles and "let it be".

The device you are looking at is a vacuum delay/reducer. They have been used for decades in automotive applications.

Depends on the way it's constructed and it's purpose. Most are used as one-way checks w/orifice to either delay vacuum, or reduce vacuum.
