New Shock - Loud Noise
Hey, all. Hoping someone might have some input regarding a new shock install. My 2004 XJR had a leaky shock on the left front side. Oddly, it would only leak when really cold and as the day went on it was fine. Anyway, I decided to buy a replacement on Amazon. The brand was Doorman and it was cheap. But, when the part arrived, to my surprise, it was a factory Billstien shock. I was pretty excited about that. Anyway, I installed it and all went well.
The new shock filled up with air and no suspension faults. I took it for a ride and it seemed fine, until I went over a speed bump and it made an awful, loud sound, like rubber rubbing against metal. It only happens on a fairly large bump but it sounds bad, very bad and very loud.
I double checked to make sure I didn't leave anything loose and all looked well. The lower part of the shock does seem to be off center to with the main, larger portion. I'm thinking I just got a bad shock? Do these shocks make noise when new? Is there some break in to be expected? I really don't want to pull the damn thing off.
