Default Nipple Crud

I have been pleasantly surprised at how "clean" most hose fittings have been. Pictured is an exception. Notice the buildup on the nipple in the thermostat housing. I suspect it is from coolent? Thankfully, it doesn't seem to have bitten into the metal, but is superficial.

Question: After cleaning, does it make sense to coat aluminum nipples with something? If so, what would you use?

Thanks & best, Steve

Hi Steve,

back from an extensive holiday trip to Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Italy (on which the SV8 behaved quite well:), and before heading out for the next business trip, I have time to answer... ;-)

I normally do not coat these nipples with anything, because I fear that otherwise the sealing effect of the hoses might not be 100% anymore when you fit them again, and up to now I have not had any problems in doing so.

Best regards,

Thomas
