Not your typical sunshade problem

My rear sunshade won't deploy. I've read several posts and they all say the same thing "it's stuck, pull it out and lube it". Well, mine won't pull out. I get clicking when I push the button but that's it. When I try to pry it up, I can get the ends to bend up about a half inch, the center will not move at all. I have even tried prying it with a screwdriver. It seems as though the center is locked or latched somehow and that prevents the ends from moving farther. I have read the TSB, but I don't know if any of the arms are broken because I can't get it out. I don't want to tear the car apart to make it work, but is there a simple way to access it from the trunk or behind the seatback? The car only has 32K miles, so I doubt the switch is worn out and I hope the motor is still good. Any and all suggestions and advice are welcome.

You need a second person to repeatedly press the button whilst you prise up the blind. As each button press alternates between down and up you sometimes need to give it quite a few goes, not pulling too hard when it's trying to go down, but then a bit more force as it tries to go up.
Unless its broken of course.

Ben, I tried that last night and couldn't get it to budge. I suppose if its broken prying a little harder won't matter... If its broke, its broke. It's not important enough to me to sink big bucks in at the dealership. But if its a simple fix, I'd like to get it working.

Thanks for the advice.

Presumably if you remove the rear seats (squab not easy) and the parcel shelf

cover you can access the blind.

Thanks meirion1, it's beginning to look like if I can't fix it from the back seat it won't get done. I'll try poking, prodding and prying some more and see what happens.

My shade comes up but it looks hard to lube it. Is there a trick to lubing it so it keeps operating well?

From what I read in the other threads, 3M makes a spray called "Dry Lube" that you are supposed to spray on the mechanisms at each end and this keeps it freed up.

As it finally turned out, that's exactly what it needed. I poked, prodded, pried and pulled and it finally came up! I guess it was a typical sunshade problem after all. Thanks for the help, I now have a raised sunshade. I plan to get some dry lube and lube it up good before I try to put it back down.
