As long as things did not get too hot, you may be alright.
Cars today just will not take the overheating like the old cars would.
Pull over and stop the motor at the first hint of things getting hot.
The temp gauge seems too little too late to me, almost as bad as an idiot light.
These are great machines, basic cooling stuff under the hood, look, read here, as well as on line.

The temperature gauge on the instrument cluster does not register any change in coolant temperature between 86 C and 129 C. Use Torque app on a smartphone with OBD port Bluetooth adapter to monitor coolant temperature.
Once the vehicle has cooled down, what is the coolant level? If it's full, there could be a stuck thermostat causing the overheating condition.

I would really appreciate some thoughts".
Well yes, Is the engine cooling fan working?

You may be able to ascertain whether the coolant is circulating properly by simply removing the cap from the coolant reservoir while the engine is cold, and observing whether the coolant is circulating properly after the engine has warmed up a bit.
