Default Overheated my 2004 jaguar xj8

I hadn't started my Jag in several years , it started right up , went on the highway, but soon over heated and now leaks coolant . No water in the oil. Any thoughts

As long as things did not get too hot, you may be alright.

Cars today just will not take the overheating like the old cars would.

Pull over and stop the motor at the first hint of things getting hot.

The temp gauge seems too little too late to me, almost as bad as an idiot light.

These are great machines, basic cooling stuff under the hood, look, read here, as well as on line.

The temperature gauge on the instrument cluster does not register any change in coolant temperature between 86 C and 129 C. Use Torque app on a smartphone with OBD port Bluetooth adapter to monitor coolant temperature.

Once the vehicle has cooled down, what is the coolant level? If it's full, there could be a stuck thermostat causing the overheating condition.

my 08 XJ8 got hot the other day when my AC was on when I shut off the ac and let idle it doesn't get hot but once the AC is turned on it starts to get hot, I believe it's the AC water pump causing this any other ideals?

I would really appreciate some thoughts

thanks
Jose

I would still check by the heads for coolant leakage.

Possible water pump internal failure or blockage in the t'tat housing.

You may be able to ascertain whether the coolant is circulating properly by simply removing the cap from the coolant reservoir while the engine is cold, and observing whether the coolant is circulating properly after the engine has warmed up a bit.

Thermostat housing been changed?
Internal piece brakes off slows the flow of coolant.
Caused mine to run warm at 45 degrees, with heater on.
