Mk2 outer rubber door glass seals.
I have just fitted the original outer door glass seals to my 1963 mk2. It's pretty obvious that they are totally inadequate. Apparently the S type had a rubber wiper type seal and I was wondering if anyone could guide me to the parts needed to upgrade mine. I believe they slide into the top chrome trim, which obviously differs from the earlier one. Part numbers of the seal and chrome trim would be most helpful.
Thank you in advance.

This came up at the end of the thread above. At the time, the chrome that holds the rubber seemed to be unobtainable. A similar section was used on other Jaguar models and could be cut down if long enough.

Revise all that. SNG have them. They are easier to find in the 420 section. The part numbers are BD 25962/3/4/5. Unfortunately, the prices are significant.

When I rebuilt my Mk 2 in the 80s, I fitted the S-type door seals that have a far better seal. At the time, (about 1983), I was able to buy them from the local main agent. The old-type seals were next to useless !! The S-type seals and chrome retention piece for the rear door requires the removal of the window frames, or at least them being loosened as they fiit under the rear ventilation light. Other thing to do when refurbing doors is to soak the fibre pads that press on the inside of the outer door skin in waxoyl to stop rusting and retention of water.

Sorry I sent you on a wild goose chase. SNG list the same part numbers for both types on their website and the drawing in the 420 section definitely shows the later ones (did the 420 ever have the earlier type?).
I wouldn't have thought so. The seals are listed on some websites as xj6/12. All a bit confusing. The consensus is that they are not available. I live in hope of finding a scrap S type to rob.

I think the series 1 and 2 XJ may have used Chrome with the same section, but different length and flange position.
I think SNG, Robey and the others are selling the early type as a replacement for the later, even for cars that never used it, which seems totally daft. There was some at Spares Day a few weeks ago, but it all involved buying the doors they were attached to!
