I am very much an amateur and what research I’ve done possibly suggests A purge valve but if anyone has any pointers it would be much appreciated.
Start with your gas cap. If not on tight it will show an evap fail. Also if there is something stopping it making a seal gives same problem. Sometimes Vaseline on the rubber may help. However you will have to clear the code and drive quite a bit until it triggers again since there are quite a few requirements for it to run the test again. From there it gets harder since there are a number of places that can cause a small leak that will trigger the code. You may have to have a smoke test done to have it located.
It will not make any difference to the way the car runs however will not pass environmental tests.

Hi chewyshaun,
The best place to start would be to please share with us the year, model and engine of your Jaguar, since DTC definitions and possible causes vary by model and year.
It's helpful if you visit your User Control Panel and Edit Your Signature to include these details so they appear in all of your posts.
Secondly, can you confirm that the code is P0441 and not P0442 or some other DTC?
Hi, I have updated my sig but it's a 2003 4.2 xj8 normally aspirated. Definitely a P0441 .One thing I noticed is immediately after I refuel it struggles to start and usually have to crank it twice. After that it starts and runs fine. Could this point to a petrol cap as previously suggested.
I had your problem of hard start after re-fueling since purchase from the previous owner. Apparently it had been a long standing problem as the car had a brand new Bosch starter installed. When I consulted my then mechanic his only comment was "Good luck in finding that one."
But the solution was just as OldKarz suggested, a purge valve stuck open. I found it after watching evap code videos on YouTube, some of which are very well presented.
I still don't understand how this problem did not trigger a CEL or pending code.
Thanks for the info guys, I will look into replacing the purge valve as it’s a fairly inexpensive part.
It's easy enough to test the purge valve to confirm it is stuck closed before replacing it, but it's a wear part and a common failure point. But cracked or broken pipes are not unheard of, and the canister vent could easily be obstructed.
Hi, I took a flyer and bought a second hand replacement purge valve. I tested both by disconnecting the electrical connector and the pipe coming from the canister at the back of the car. My valve was pulling a vacuum and the replacement was not. So as suggested my valve was faulty being stuck open. Haven’t refuelled yet but fingers crossed that this is now resolved. Thanks for all the input.
At first I thought a new purge valve would be a simple fix. It turned out it wasn't the purge valve.
Then I bought a new fuel cap - the code still reappeared.
Then I had the car checked for leaks - none was found at three different workshops.
I didn't want to spend more on the topic, so I just developed the habit to clear the code whenever it appears.
In the first year or so it appeared almost weekly.
Then, in another matter, I had two O2 sensors replaced. After that the sequence in which the code shows up went down to every 2000 km or so, but in the meantime the system never clears all checks, eventually the EVAP check will fail and the code reappears.
For emission test I make sure that the car has run a few days after the last reset, so that all the other checks are completed. Then I check that no pending code is in the system. So far that got me through the test.
The next thing would be to check the charcoal canister, but with it's given location it would be so expensive that it doesn't suit the remaining value of my 2003 XJ6 with 165.000 miles on it.
