Default Purchasing 2008 XJ

Hello all, I am wondering if anyone could provide any insight about buying a 2008 Jaguar XJ8 base with 105,000 miles. The place is asking $14,500 I feel the price is high given the cars milage and the fact that the car has some cosmetic issues. I am wondering other peoples opinions on the price, and if the car is even worth considering because of the milage. Also, does anyone know about problems that may arise and services that will need to be done in the near future on a XJ with so many miles?
Thanks

Hi Dlyons2018,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I have moved your post from the forum for the X308 to the forum for the X350, which is the Jaguar factory project code for the 2008 XJ8 you are considering. Here you will find owners of similar models.

You can start your research by reading this thread, which will give you an idea of the many things you should check and may be able to use as bargaining points:

Default Does seem a little high.

Offer 12K. Spend the difference on the suspension if needed. If solid; keep for brakes, tires, control arms, spark plugs, sway bar bushings, and any other items prone to failure.
You will love it.

What are the cosmetic issues on the car ?

With these cars, the drive train is pretty much bullet-proof, but the suspension bushes and joints are well-known for wearing-out at rather lower mileages than one would expect. This, plus the all-air suspension, means this is usually where maintenance money tends to have to be spent. The suspension air compressor, for instance, wears out quite quickly. However, there is now a seal kit available to repair the piston assembly, so the cost is much, much, less than it used to be.

Thanks Mitchell, underneath the front bumper is pretty scraped up and the bumper is pushed out on the right side of the car it is pretty clear someone drove it up on a curb when parking or something. Also where the bottom lining of the engine area and bumper connect is not attached. There is a small dent on the top of the hood. Other than that, the car is in good shape.

Ha! This is actually what you should've started with! That changes everything IMO price wise!!!

With that description, I think the dealer can forget his price, or just dream on !

Damage at the front like you describe means there could also be RH suspension and wheel damage, only clear when the wheel alignment is checked, and the car inspected underneath. All this plus the dent in the hood, and 105k miles. You've said nothing about service records or interior condition.

Not a good buy from the sound of it. Look somewhere else.
