Alright thanks for the quick responces guys, I needed the trunk to fold down to make room for a bmx bike but I think I might use one of those trunk mounted bike racks. Has anyone had any experience with them. The ones that clip to the inside in the trunk?

Unlike the X-type, the XJ does not have a fold-down seat, even thru the 2011 model, in the name of structural stiffness. It's supposed to help the car handle better when you're driving over 130mph or something. I'd much rather have a fold-down seat.
Not in my 2004 XJR.
Checked all the publicity stuff I have, and (European buyers) could specify a ski-hatch.
I believe they are very rare; certainly in the UK where we don't get much snow, until this year that is.
Cycle racks for fitting to the roof are quite popular in Europe, although I can't remember ever seeing any on an XJ.
I doubt many UK XJ drivers would want to haul cycles. The Dutch are big into cycling
If California allow cycles on the car roof, you could try the internet. I expect the racks are flat-packed and could be exported to the US at reasonable cost.
Best regards Rojie

I have a clip-on bike holder, which uses belt-like threads, 2 of which clip on the front edge of the boot while the other 2 hook up at the opposite end of the boot.
My bicycle holder can carry up to 3 adult bikes.
It also fits nicely in the boot for safekeeping.
