Default Rear view mirror leaked.

Hi

I have recently bought my XJ8 and one of the faults with it that the electro chromatic rear view mirror has a tide mark 3/4 of the way up as though the fluid inside has leaked out somehow.

I have been looking on eBay for replacements, as you do, but wish to know which mirrors from other models will fit to broaden my search. EG X300, X350, S type etc, I may decide to fit a manually dipping mirror too unless your advice suggests this is a bad idea. The door mirrors are conventional.

Cheers

Glen.

This seems to be a common problem with this type of mirror. It has occurred on both our 97X6L and 99XJ8L but not yet on our 04VDP. I had the 97 mirror rebuilt through Coventry West here in the US, but that might not be practical for you with shipping, etc. I do not know if earlier mirrors will work on the X350, but the wiring plug type may be a consideration as there were different ones used on the X300 and X308.

Hi Freebird,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

Electrochromatic or electrochromic mirrors seem to suffer a high failure rate. The one in our '04 BMW failed but the one in our '04 XJR is still working, thankfully. I purchased a spare on eBay from the same year and model just in case.

Perhaps another member will know if the mirror from another model is compatible with the X350. In the meantime, you can download and install the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) from the thread at the link below and search the mirror part numbers for various models to see which ones may share the same mirror:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...uctions-48194/

Please let us know if you find that a mirror from another model will fit the X350.

Also, since we're a friendly bunch around here, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can give you a proper welcome and learn something about you and your Jag.

Cheers!

Don

I thought there had been a known problem with them early on? The company (supplier who made them for Jaguar) would offer to send a new one or maybe it was rebuild if you sent it in? I can't recall, but worth a search here! (could be one of my other cars I'm thinking of BTW ) could have been on the uk jag forum?
