Angry "Reset" sunroof operation?

I have just had a new headlining fitted to my 2004 XJ8 and now I have noticed that the roof open/closing is not correct.

when I press the main button the roof only closes halfway and then opens fully, every time you press that button.

The person who fitted the new headliner suggested that similar to BMW there may be a "Reset" operation with the buttons that you have to go though? Is this correct?
Similar to how we have to "Reset" our windows, by holding down the switch etc...

Does anyone know how to "Reset" the sunroof, if there is a special process?

Also, I have the following codes :

U3FF8 - Sliding roof control 2-short circuit to ground
U3FFA - Sliding roof control 1 - short circuit to ground

So, is this a "Reset" problem or an Electrical problem with the switches 1 & 2?

Any help is greatly appreciated, David.

Sounds like a shop to avoid like the plague, unless they make it right. Providing things were in order with it, when you took it there.

If there were no fault codes there is a way of mechanically adjusting the open close mechanism of the sunroof. It is a matter of using an allen key directly in the motor above the roof console.

Since you have fault codes it might be that the electrical connector has not been properly placed in that motor.

If that is not the case then something has happened to the wiring leading to the
the electrical connector or the pins in the connector have been "mashed".

This is the procedure for the X202 but should work for the X350!!!

SLIDING ROOF LEARNING PROCEDURE
1. Press the front of the sliding roof rocker switch and hold it until the roof has
tilted open fully.
Note: Sliding roof moves to fully tilted position and stops.
2. Release the switch.
3. Press the front of the sliding roof rocker switch again and continue to hold it
until the sliding roof panel briefly pops up higher.
4. Release the switch.
5. Within 5 seconds, press the front of the sliding roof rocker switch again and
continue to hold it while the roof panel slides fully open and then closed
again and stops.
6. Release the sliding roof rocker switch (the sliding roof is now synchronized).
Note: If the switch is released before the panel reaches the fully
closed position, the motor synchronization is not complete. If the
motor synchronization has not been completed successfully, the
sliding roof moves only in one direction (tilt).
If the power operation fails, the sliding roof can be opened or closed
by hand. Remove the roof console to gain access to the drive spindle,
insert a 4 mm Allen socket into the drive spindle and turn clockwise to
open or counterclockwise to close the sliding roof panel.

motorcarman's listed procedure should work if there is no electrical issue.

The fault codes would suggest that there is an electrical issue.

If the sunshade was also re covered then the whole sunroof assembly would have been taken out and by the sound of it was not re installed properly.

Thank you all for your input.

I tried motorcarman's reset instructions but to no avail...I believe it's an electrical problem and will return the car to the installer and let them fix the switches.

Will let you know the results next week.

Just a word of caution here. Under no circumstances allow the installer to try and "adjust" the actual slider mechanism if they have no experience of doing that.

If the slider mechanism guides are messed with and incorrectly positioned then operation of the sunroof is quite likely to break them.

Ask me how I know.
