Default Restricted Preformance lite, ck engine lite off...

I decided to take my Super V8 for a ride from Cape Cod, Ma. to NJ. Got to NJ fine, but the next day, the Restricted Performance lite came on while driving, then went off within fifteen minutes; I stopped car, got gas, then while driving it, it came on again, after fifteen minutes it went off, but even with that RP lite off, it couldn't accelerate. Both times, no Check Engine lite came on...

I stopped the car, left engine on, pop hood and it sounded lite a fan was on, that I never heard before. I stopped car, checked anti-freeze, oil and other fuilds, which are all good, turned car back on, and the fan noise was gone, drove car and it road normal with good acceleration. I didn't bring my code reader or tools, but no check engine lite, just the restricted performance lite. Temp and oil gauges are normal and no hot or any smells from the engine, which idles well, even with that fan noise going on. I was thinking about doing a hard reset with the battery tomorrow, which is the day I'm going back to Cape Cod, Ma.

Thanks For Any Help!!!

Maybe try popping into a auto parts chain store? They can pull the engine codes for you. Maybe that’ll help point you in the right direction?

Questions: Will there be codes to read, if the Check Engine never came on. Only the RP warning lite came on, then went off, with a fan in the engine department staying on. I re-started car, fan want off and engine was but to normal, I checked the air filter box and air intake tubes, which in like new shape with no leaks. I know the throttle intake air tube has a temp sensor somewhere, I'm thinking maybe it needs to be cleaned, but would that temp sensor, turn on a fan, that I think sounded like one of the radiator fans, in which, this fan had to be off for car to be back to normal.????

That's a great point. Yeah, I'm not sure, but I am inclined to agree that it probably did not log any engine codes. Have you been driving through a lot of precipitation?

The temp sensor that you refer to is the inlet air temperature.
I would expect that there would be code if the engine went into RP.
It may be that the coolant temperature went out of range which kicked the fan on.
Scan for codes first.

YAh, I'm going to buy a codec reader and some tools and a cleaner stay. The coolant was not in the red and no hot engine smell u got when they overheat. I'm waking up super early tomorrow, so to fix this before my long trip back.

I would definitely check that the drain next to the cabin filter is not clogged.

Also check the interior carpets for moisture. although i think water ingress into your interior is probably not happening since you didn’t report excessive fogging of the windows.

Hopefully you find the problem and it’s A simple fix

OK, Now the Check Engine lite came on with the RP lite; The cooling fans came on, too, but engine not overheating and normal Coolant temp....

The Codes are: P2601 (stored)

Possible intercooler coolant pump issue.

Maybe you can make it back home without issue if you drive delicately? Hopefully someone else here has experience with this issue can offer better advice.

All the best,

Default Gauges & RP.

Don't trust the dashboard temperature gauge, it doesn't give progressive readings; if it gets anywhere near the red, you probably already need an engine. Having said that, they aren't really prone to any cooling system problems, and any coolant loss should generate a red light and a "Low coolant" warning long before any damage is done.

The RP, does read remarkably like a defective charge cooler pump. Uprated and more effective aftermarket ones are available at lower than OE prices.

Bosch auxilliary pump brushes wear out eventually.

Default Update on the P2601 code…

UPDATE:

Took the car out of storage a couple weeks ago, and right out of the box, I got a mis-fire on cylinder 4; which was just an ignition coil…. After fixing that, I drove car for about five miles, and got that P2601 code - I read somewhere on this forum that intercooling system could get air locked and; right before I first got this intercooler code, I changed a couple worn radiator hose, but didn’t bleed the system.

So, I got the engine up to temp, turned on heat and fan to high, turned car off, and opened supercharger coolant fill plug a bit for about 5 secs, than repeated the process again. I have been driving the car for about three weeks now, engaging the supercharger many times, and no more codes what so ever!!! Oh, I did check the intercooler pump before I did the bleed, which was getting 12 volts and felt like it was running.

Seems like it doesn’t take much air to air-lock the supercharger intercooling system.
