Default Rhino Ramps

Has anyone ever used rhino ramps to perform an oil change on their XJ (x358) or even XK (x150)?

Just bought a pair for my Mercedes E430 and now I’m pondering using them for the XK and XJ and maybe save some $ on labor when the oil change is due.

My question is mostly, will the vehicles clear and not scrape on either way - up or down? Hope someone has experience with this to share.

Rhino Ramps work like a charm on my 2004 XJ8, and, they also work fine on my 2016 Outback and 2024 Trailblazer. I've even used them for trans fluid changes (after jacking up back to level) and numerous underbody tinkering.

I do note that they want to slip forward (pop out forward) when first pulling up if I'm in garage on smooth concrete; On rough driveway concrete or asphalt they are fine. To eliminate the popping out/forward slip, there are many web-listed tricks using a heavy towel or rubber pad on the leading edge. Google it. I simply pop-riveted a old rubber mat to leading edge and it eliminated problem totally.

I've had a pair of Rhino ramps for twenty years. Just changed the oil in my 04 XJ8 last weekend using them. No problems at all.

My Miata doesn't clear them, but the XJ8 certainly does. The pain about the oil change is the underbody panel... seven rather widely separated bolts and a couple of 10mm nuts.

My XJ8 goes on and down easily without any scraping whatsoever

I’ve got some rhino ramps and they’ve been great. A lot easier and safer than using jack stands. They’re very strong too. Holds my 8000 lb dodge ram diesel no problem.

All the time. I still use a jack or jack stands, as a backup with the rhinos.

And if I may suggest, heavily-rated jackstands at that. 6-tonners, my preference for either of X350 or L320.

Not just about the weight reserve.

They have stronger, better tops, wider stance at the base to reduce risk of slipping, tipping and of sinking-in ... even to warm asphalt, let alone lesser or wetter soils.

I've used Rhino Ramps plenty of times on every vehicle I've owned for oil changes. The above mentioned sliding problem on smooth concrete is the only issues I've had with them, and only with RWD vehicles like the XJR and S-Type. Honestly, I've just set them further back to compensate for the forward slide they do, but perhaps that'll come back to bite me at some point.

A note for the XJ though, if you do any work where you're going to get all four wheels off the ground and are using the ramps for easy jack access to the front , you'll contact the ramps on the way down if you don't let the air suspension air back up first before backing down. Struggled for a couple hours with that just recently after doing a transmission service.

Surely they can work, two close neighbours use them on 2500 and 3500 grade work trucks.

..but.. with such low lift? Not worth it for my no longer snake-like carcass. Besides.. I have too much s**t to spare the storage SPACE for them, between tasks - given I still need to stash four 6,000 lb jackstands, two 5,000 lb scissor jacks, three bottle jacks, and two manual-hydraulic floor jacks regardless.

Annnd jacks plus jackstands are more flexible. I can apply at suspension, chassis, or some of each, plus relocating them DURING the job, all depending on what I need access to the most.

Ramps can get oil changed but probably NOT a fuel tank dropped. Jackstands do both and more.
Ramps are not so great for tires, calipers, rotors, suspension, in any case.
