Hello all, have some general question about 05 XJR.

1. Is the XJR need timing chain change at a certain mileage although from my understand it use timing chain? At what mileage? Mine is at 82000 miles right now.

2. Is Iridium type fine point spark plug ok to use in this 4.2 SC engine? And gap at what clearance? This engine's ignition is not waste spark type ignition is it?

3. Is the supercharger unit have their own lubrication system or it is share with the engine oil?

4. What type of oil and additive needed and how much needed for the rear axle?

5. Is the tranny only able to take ZF fluid from the link on top or there are other substitution out there that I can buy from local store?

That's all for now and thanks. Ask these because the owner's manual is worthless on maintenance aspec.

Generally speaking, engines with timing chains like the Jag V8s and also the V6 petrols do not have a replacement interval because they last so long. Of course, when the mileage gets very large, the chains will get a bit noisy as the tensioners run out of travel to take up the slack caused by wear, so replacement is then a repair event, rather than a maintenance event - maintenance is driven by a schedule, (miles/months), repairs are when needed. Chains do not generally snap and cause havoc, unlike cambelts. The exception to this with Jaguar engines was the V8 exhaust cam chains on the 4 litre, (see the other XJ8 forum), due to bad tensioner specification, now thankfully cured.

Cam belts can be subject to sudden failure, which usually causes havoc, so are generally subject to a maintenance routine to replace them at a safe interval before the belt gets into a risky state. The Jag V6 diesel is one of these. Cambelt replacement on the V6 diesel is a BIG job, and takes many hours. This needs factoring in when one is considering buying one. Of course in the USA, the diesel is not available.

Thanks a lot. That's mean for power steering fluid I can use Mercon V to top it off right? Mercon V superceded Dex3 right? Or I can use use the Mobil 1 full synthetic multi ATF that I'm planning to use in the tranny?

I know that the brake fluid that came from the factory and the one that is used by Jag dealers is super dot 4, it is $15.00 per half litre from them.
There are many other makes of super dot 4 out there too, I bought a litre of Pentosin from Napa for $13.00.
I also have heard that any dot 4 can be used but the super dot has dif boiling point and more moisure inhbitors.
Whichever one you pick make sure you pour it in the right hole.
I am becoming very intimate with my breaking braking system.
