Default Sidemarker Fault

Hi everyone,
I just got informed that i have to replace my sidemarker light, not because the bulb is burned out but since the part is corroded or shorted or something along those lines. My dealer told me that it is a common fault, and want $162 for the new part and to put it together. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if i did it myself how hard is it to do?
Thanks,
Mike

Default 07 X-Type side marker light

eBay seems to always have a few available for as little as $35 to $45 depending upon which side and front or rear. I wouldn't think replacing one would be too difficult but haven't had to do one so it's just an opinion.

At least pop the marker out and have a look first. You may be able to get an emery board down in the contacts and simply clean things up to restore the connection. The markers (both front and rear) pop out from the top. My advice is to use a paint scraper ( about 2" wide and preferably with an angle built in.) You can use a flat blade screwdriver, but I can almost guarantee scuffed paint and chipped edges along the marker lense. The wider paint scraper is much more gentle.

The key is to take your time and work the edge, just like opening an iPod or iPhone if you've ever had that pleasure.

i had a similar issue with the drivers side rear marker where the bulb holder was almost completely rusted out. I ordered one off Amazon for $40 - less than half what the dealer wanted. They're simple to replace.

How hard was it to re-wire the new part in? Since i know how to take everything off, just not good with wiring. Was the part on amazon the exact same, since im kind of finicky with what does on the Jag since it only has 8k miles on it..
Thanks

I did my left front about 6 months ago, you can get the maker lights with the plugs from www.jaguarparts.com for 28.85. You can save yourself some cash that way. I went all the way around and clean all of the plugs and put a little ele grease on them, replaces the lights with LEDs. I run with daylights on, and the housing will melt with the reg bulbs in them. If you do have to re-wire them there's only the two wires, you should be able to get replacements just about anywhere.

Please take your time removing the lights that's the finicky part,
good luck.

I just ordered a new LF lamp from Coventry West, about $35. Mine was totally destroyed internally by corrosion in the electrical connector elbow. Just use a small screwdriver to lever the lamp upwards against the metal clips on the top of the lamp and pull out the bottom from the hole in the bumper. I am hoping my wiring harness was not damaged, I didn't test it yet. I should have checked them all, I might pull them and try to seal them better.

Hey,

I just ordered front left and right marker lights off of eBay ($32 shipped each NIB) for my 04, the right fronts bulb went out and I opened it up and found out how badly corroded it was so I figured I would just do them both at once. I replaced the rear red side marker lights a few years ago for the same reason. Its very simple to do and shouldn't take more then 5 minutes on each side.

Load those sockets up with dielectric grease to fend off the water assault. The wires on my LF were completely pulled out of the socket, but was a simple fix with the soldering iron.

Sounds like replacing side markers is not an uncommon occurrence. I had the rear passenger marker shear off when I hit a piece of tire debris (thankfully no other damage occurred - amazingly). Ordered one off Ebay and was good to go. Agree with using ele to coat the wiring.

In our case all 4 were out when we bought it. I think some owners simply can't figure out how to get the things off.

Agree. Once you get over the fear of scratching the car or breaking the marker, it's fairly easy. Just need to be careful and use a small, thin screwdriver.

Not entirely certain the exact part number you need, but go to Amazon and search for Jaguar OEM Side marker lamp. I would think you'll find what you need. The marker is sold as a complete set, including the elbow socket. I could not find the components sold separately anywhere (including the dealer).

The marker is sold as a complete set, including the elbow socket the part number from the lists I have for 04-05 XJ8 is:
1. Lamp, Side Marker
R C2C002051
L C2C010423

Just in case someone needed it:
1 Lamp, Side Repeater
R/L C2C002046-7

Now for that corroded part if you cannot clean it up, your going to have cut it and replace that pig tail should be able to have that at any part store. The dealer only sell that as a complete wiring harness and you don't want to go there about cost, just for that end piece

Good luck
