Default Size of the new XJ vs X358??

Hey guys, i searched the forum and didn't find anything so i'm sorry if something similar has been posted. But here is my question:

So I am a taller guy (around 6'4-6'5) and I was wondering about the space was in the 2008 model XJ8 (the face lifted one.) i'm thinking about purchasing one as my first Jaguar (hopefully first of many) and the one I am looking at us about 15 hours from me. So before I drive out there or pay to have it shipped I want to know if you guys have any idea about the front space.

I've sat in a new XJ (short wheel base) and I fit pretty good. I also fit pretty decent in an XK (x150) but never an x358 or 350 jag. On paper it seems the older model has more space. But I wanted to see if anyone on here has sat in both and has any advice?

Thanks so much! Keep up the awesome posts.

Hello,

I'm 6'4", about 215, longer legs than torso, and I could use another inch back of seat travel. However, it's not uncomfortable, it would just be nice.

The key position is more of an issue IME for longer legged folks.

I daily drive my 358, and its more than doable / there is enough space.

Cheers,

Jeff

Same here. 6'3" 190lbs. Knee and key collide all of the time. So much so, I don't have any other keys on the FOB. Low back could use some better support but my low back is in rough shape anyway.

Hi there, 6'3" tall big built guy, use my X358 for daily driver, trips from 2-3 miles up the road to 820 miles in one day.

It's a very comfortable car, mines is the LWB ( Although that only really means extra legroom in the back anyway )

Its absolutely fine for me, if I was being picky, I'd agree that another inch of legroom in the front would be nice, but no biggie
Headroom isn't an issue either

Does anyone have any official "measurements" of the 350 vs 358. Interior headroom, legroom, roofline, etc to see what changes Jag made, if any, to the interior? I'm deciding between a 06 and 09 portfolio and I'd like to know if one car has an inch here or there on the other in terms of interior volume.

The specs say there is no difference in front headroom between the X350 and X358. It is listed as 38.4 inches front and 38.6 rear.

The front legroom is 43.3 inches in the X350 and 43.1 in the X358, so 0.2 inches more in the X350.

The big headroom difference is not between the X350/X358 but between these and the newer X351. The 2013 XJL (X351) rear headroom is 37.2 inches, and the X350 from 2005 had 38.6 inches rear headroom. In the rear of the X350 I am fine, but in the rear of the X351 (2013) my head brushes against the roof, and I am 6'2". So that 1.4" that was shaved off the 351 rear headroom to give the exterior sloped roof effect I don't like. By contrast they added more front seat headroom to the X351, giving it 39.5" (1.1" more than the X350/X358 has).

Great data, thanks for the hard numbers. For some reason when I look at the 350 and compare it to the 358, externally, the 358 looks more upright, more square between the a and c pillars. Maybe its just the photos I've seen, any thoughts on why the 358 Super V8 Portfolio appears more square/stout, taller/broad shouldered to me compared to the 350 Super V8 Portfolio?

I've sat inside the new XJ and it felt cozy and cosseted on the inside, but impossible to see out for the purposes of backing up or maneuvering inside a tight parking area (which I would have no problem doing in my 350 LWB . I had to let the salesperson pull it outside so I could start my test drive. The drive was solid and a bit firm, not 'running on cloud' like the air suspension-equipped 350. The turning radius was not good. It's a great cruiser for road trips but not for inner city driving/parking.

I will continue to drive my 350 LWD daily until the wheels fall off

Cheers,
Wolfy
