Default Steering Noise

Steering pump replaced a couple of months ago. Not long after that, when the car is cold the steering makes a kind of whirring (low level whining but not squealing) type of noise; in either direction at idle speed (ie: pulling out of the garage or down the driveway). This disappears after a couple of miles...

Kind of bothers me, as I do not expect that type of sound and there was nothing like it before the pump was changed. Thought I'd pose the problem here as someone may know what it could be.

TIA for any constructive thoughts/ideas.

Go to the Jag dealer and ask for the power steering additive. They should know what it is. Very common. should be less than $10. I don't know the part # but if you search the forum you should be able to find it.

power steering additive is C2S 48887. I bought it from Terry's Jag. I think it was $10 shipped.

I had the same issue. Reply can be found here along with an attachment (instructions). The additive solved my problem.

Question

Thanks guys! But, is this what I need? I mentioned I did not have a squeal, but more of a slight whiring noise when the wheel is turned 90 deg in either direction from straight and back. I have not taken it lock-to-lock where I may hear the lock-squeal a lot of cars are prone to give out under this strain. (I did not have this noise before the pump was changed)

Just trying to make sure I have it right, vs attempting a cure for a different kind of problem.

Rgds,

Rgds,

My car experienced what the Jag dealer called more of a whir than a squeal as well. I'm hearing impaired but with my hearing aids in, I would have called it a whir as well. After adding the PSA, the whir is gone. It took about a week to fully disappear.

Beyond making a service call to your Jaguar Dealership, your trying to describe a symptom based on a sound. Sound is different to you vs. me and so on, so it's difficult to provide assistance. I'm sure there are other possibilities and having your pump changed out would leave me suspect too and I'm not a fan of swapping parts etc vs more accurately diagnosing a problem.
$10 is worth a shot from my perspective and certainly cheaper than a service call.

Thanks to 'Muddybear' and Sean .
I bought the additive from the local Jag dealer and added per the Service Bulletin. The noise is already reduced and perhaps as Sean has suggested my whir will disappear in a week or so also!
