Default Supercharger belt

Hi

I was planned to change out my supercharger belt on my 05 super v8. However it does not seem to be available anymore. Sng sold a kit to convert it to be able to use another belt, but this is also no longer available.
So were to get a new drive belt for the supercharger?
Seems there was a change at chassinumber : H17573

Hi Frank,

the converion kit is basically a must for all supercharged cars up to VIN H17572, as the original type of belt is not available anymore. The original type of belt was ribbed only on one side, whereas the new type is ribbed on both sides.

You can ylso buy the parts needed separately, if you cannot find the complete kit:

I know of the following source for the complete kit, but it is in Germany:

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi quattrofrank,
I've just had a look at Jaguar Rover Classic Parts and they show the belt as available. They are usually good at listing unavailable parts correctly, so give them a try.

P.S. Hi Thomas, Greetings from NZ. You beat me to it by seconds! You are right, I forgot the change, as my car is H25812 so is already modified.
I wonder, can you just swap the idler and tensioner pulleys over?

Hi Pete,

that is the new type belt that will not fit the 2005 SV8 without the other parts. The belt for VINs up to H17573 is not available anymore.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
I replied too quickly and missed that the OP had a 2005 car.
I looked at Gates and they do a belt for that car.

It can bee seen that it is only grooved on one side, so is the correct type for 2005, as shown above.

thank you, I think its best to order this soon before it will be sold out. My belt has 20years and 100k km on it so probably wise to do so.

I did the conversion soon after buying my SV8, at the time it was 15 years old and had 175k km. The price for the kit at the time was less than 300 EUR.

Best regards,

Thomas

I did see someone mention that the swap/change in belt design was to reduce noise, did you notice any difference? I dont want to loose any supercharger noise

Sorry, I basically started driving my car after I did the conversion, so I cannot really make a comparison.

But: the supercharger is is present enought for my taste, and, if they say that the design change was made to reduce noise, I presume that they mean reducing the noise made by the belt itself. Consequently, my logic would be that the supercharger noise itself should be more present than before the conversion.

Best regards,

Thomas

You are right about the noise, but the problem was that on cold starts in cold weather the belt sometimes made a disconcerting chirping noise.
TSB XJ100-02 dated 05/04 was issued, but later the modified parts as detailed by Thomas above were incorporated into production. The kit was made available to modify existing cars to the new standard. Not every car had the problem, so it was not elevated to the status of a recall.

So you have the belt that is ribbed on only one side. Supercharger belt by continental is 8K1325 It took me ages to find this part number as Jaguar was NLA when I bought my car 8 years ago.

The partsnumber in your original post did not show up on my screen due to some strange formatting.
Thats great news, so we actually have 3 to choose from
I did look for the continental one, found on ebay but the picture showed a production date of 2014 for the belt, would think its better to get something a little fresher
