Throttle Body Replacement
Good evening to all. I have a 2005 XJ8 that I'm getting a P2135 code on. It appears that the TPS is part of the throttle body and the entire unit has to be replaced.
My question is this. If I replace the throttle body myself, does the ECM need to be programmed for the new part or will it simply work with the new throttle body?
Your insights are appreciated.

I moved your post out of the regional section.
The TPS is not available to buy as a spare part from Jaguar, so they will tell you to buy a complete throttle body.
However the TPS is the exact same item used on other models too;
2.5L and 3.0L X-Type (all years)
2.5L and 3.0L S-Type
4.2L and 4.2L S/C S-Type (up to 2006)
3.5L, 4.2L and 4.2L S/C X350 XJ (up to 2006)
The part number for the TPS is Denso 198500-3300, do a search for this part number.
Aftermarket TPS do turn up for sale on eBay every now and then.
Or you can find the cheapest "new" throttle body from a V6 and take the sensor.

I'm sure Jaguar makes a nice profit on selling the entire throttle body instead of just the TPS.
I found a new throttle body that fits the car for $325. Will I need to have the ECM software updated after the installation or is there no need for an update?

This post suggest you can calibrate the new TPS manually:

i went through the normal throttle body problems. Just changed it today, took it for a test drive and there is a lot of hesitation and if i put my foot into it, it bogs down really bad and gets intermittently jumpy. any suggestions?
Thanks Cambo. I found the TPS party number that you gave me and was able to get one on EBay for $50. I swapped it out and the car is running great again.
I figured it was worth a $50 gamble to try a used part and save $325 on a new throttle body. Very grateful to you for your help.
And yes, the VIN is lower that G49700.

Don't re-use the gaskets! They are a one-shot only item.
I didnt reuse any gaskets. I ran into another another thread that suggested doing a drain and fill on the Trans. Something about the hard shifts from the 'system failures'. It sounded stupid but I have not changed the fluid, so I figured I would give it a shot.... It worked. The car is running better than ever. I used Lucas universal synthetic Trans fluid.
To calibrate the new throttle body, turn the ignition on, but do not start. Then cycle the gas pedal to full throttle and back slowly 3 times. You can then start the car and it will be calibrated.
@cjd where was this information a long time ago? ha! does that work when you do a tps replacement too?
To anyone else... I would recommend not doing the TPS replacement unless your tight on cash and need it RIGHT NOW. Just do the whole throttle body. If the TPS went out, its just a matter of time before the throttle motor starts acting up too. You can pick up a new TB from some of the online retailers now for about $250 shipped. If I wasn't such a cheap a$$ I would have done that in the first place and would have saved myself time and money.
