Exclamation Tranny issue on first only

Hey guys, so my 2004 xj8 USA model with 135000 miles runs like new, with the exception of the tranny when I am in first shifting to second gear. The car always shifts into second and the remaining gears without slipping or what not. The only issue is that when I am pulling out of first, if I gas more than 2000 rpms or so, it will shift into second hard and almost pull back a bit before it shifts. If I pull out in first gear softly below 2000 rpms it will shift into second just fine without that happening. Any ideas? Hope its not a major issue!

My 2005 does the same thing - leaves the line firmly then kind of eases up a bit when shifting into 2nd. It almost feels like the traction control cutting in, but it does this even when it's switched off. It's quite subtle but I can notice it. All other trans functions are quite normal.

Mine did the same thing. I cleared the transmission adaptations and it went away.

So how would I go about doing that?

You need WDS/IDS/SDD. The dealer can do it and also reflash the TCM for about an hour of shop time. I cleared mine to see if it fixed the problem, then a couple of months later I did the pan/filter/fluid change, cleared them again, and reflashed the TCM. The transmission shifts perfectly now.

Wanted to confirm as well that clearing the TCM adaptations and re-flashing the TCM resolved an identical problem. Had it done at an independent Jaguar outfit. About 100 bucks.

Thanks for the reply! I'll be sure to get this taken care of then once the weather gets nicer here in NYC and I am able to change the transmission fluid pan/filter and then bring it to the dealer. For now I'll just have to drive slowly out if first gear!
