Trans issue
Hey Guys. Can some one tell me how to check the Trans fluid, I could not find a dip stick under the hood on my 2005 XJR. I punched it today and there was a hesitation or jurk of some kind and now I have restriction performance trans fault. Any Ideas. The trans seems to shift through all gears fine. Thanks
I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Centre to X350 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

There is no transmission fluid dipstick. It would help if you indicated accumulated miles of your XJR. Its a seal system and you will have to jack up the car to access size fill port on transmission housing to check fluid level. If your Jag never had a transmission fluid and transmission filter change, now i'ts the time to do it. Change every 50,000 miles even Jaguar indicated the trans oil does not need to be change for the life span of the car. My brother is a master mechanic at Jaguar and he indicated that they now do change trans fluid and pan filter as well. There are hundreds of article regarding this issue for Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW since all share the same XF transmission.
Also, every Jaguar owner should own a Jaguar specific reader to scan error codes.
Good luck

Other thing that might benefit the tranny is a reflash of the TCM. I eventually ended up with a fault light and my previous X350 going into Limp mode, and the reflash cured it. Apparently there are some pressure values that are checked each time a change is made, and if exceeded, the system flags a fault. The system needs values resetting to cater for very slight wear.I never had any more trouble after this, apart from the incurable "hunting" syndrome on warm-up.

Converted mine over to the steel pan, gasket, filter, with Mercon S P, believe it's the same filter as the Cobra's. Fuel filter as well as a multitude of other things you can, and should check into, catch up on, & do since it's up in the air, before you have to. Maintenance seems to very often be neglected in these cars, or poorly maintained at best. People just seem often to be CHEAP, LAZY, (therefore) STUPID, as well as DISHONEST, when dealing with machines.

Phoenix Transmission Parts Inc. is now running a sale, pan, filter, and a cheap gasket for $159.85, delivered.
Don't know for sure it's the cobra (Carol Shelby) filter, seems i read or heard it somewhere. Any decent trans shop will know, and probably have, the filter you need, for your conversion. Then to the Lincoln, Ford, dealer for a much heaver duty gasket, #BL3Z7A191C, & eight quarts of Mercon S P
