Default A trip planned to Mackies Transmissions

I will be going up to get my gearbox serviced on the 7th at Mackies Transmissions in Glasgow. It is a bit of a journey, but I feel confident in their work following the tour I attended.

The car is at 148,000 miles and on original oil (I guess?), really it should have been done at half that by the previous owners, but as you know Jaguar do not have it as the maintenance schedule.

I am hoping that it helps the 2nd gear change jolt (mainly when cold) and shudder sometimes.
I will update once it has been done and run-in.

Hey Alec, good to hear you're going in to Mackies for your transmission service....I'm sure they'll do a great job.

Here's hoping it'll cure your issues too.

It should take around a couple of hours I guess and you'll be good to go.

Looking forward to your feedback

Jim

Right, I have returned from Mackies.

The job took about 3 hours to do. I left the car with them and came back later while the oil was being drained. The discovered that the gearbox has been disturbed before, the filler cap was only finger tight...
Also, the electronic plug needed replacing, due to worn o-rings, apparently they all do this.

So in total the bill came to £409, expensive, but hopefully cheaper than a new gearbox!
I couldn't tell if the shifting has improved, due to the box being warmed up. I will find out tomorrow when it is cold. I averaged 35mpg on the way up, but 32mpg back. The car did feel sluggish on the return, has anyone else found this, or is it just me?

Had mine done Friday with sleeve and tcm software update too and the difference is night and day, the changes are smoother the car is more responsive and the hunting in the rpm s when cold has gone .

I am very pleased with the service and price from Mackies and can recommend them highly.

Nice to see you've had instant results John, I know you sweated it a little beforehand, glad it all worked out and you got the service from Mackies that I knew you would.

Alec, hopefully you can report back in a few days or so and advise where you're at then?
I'm sure all will be well and hope to hear..

Hi Jim,
A slight update, though I have not had chance to test thoroughly.
The surging problem, has much improved, though I will see how long it stays.
The gearchange on the low gears is slightly less noticeable though.
I will see how it is in a few hundred miles later this week.
