Trunk not seating - doors unable to be locked

Hoping someone can help. Have a 2005 xj8. The truck closes, butdoes not seat itself completely. The familiar sound of it being pulled closed is absent. Once the trunk is down it can only be reopened by using the key. Big Problem is that since the trunk is not actually seating itself and locking, the car cannot be locked by using the remote. I'm not sure we can even lock it manually, but due to the trunk issue, all we get are two beeps when we try to lock the car by remote. Any ideas? I'm sorry, but I didn't see a search feature for the forum so I could see if anyone else has had this non-seating / non-locking trunk issue. Just started out of the blue...

Hey Ann welcome to the forum. I am not to familiar with your vehicle but if I recall my Lincoln had the same problem. I found the the motor in the lock has gone south and needed replacement. I am hoping there is an easy fix and this is just something characteristic to the vehicle that is not serious. "IF" it does need replacement there should just be a couple screws and a wire, I would imagine getting the beauty cover off the inside of the trunk would be the hard part. Good Luck!
Some else should be around shortly that might know better.
