Default Trunk open light

Hello all,
I just purchased a 2008 XJ8, I’m having an issue with the trunk showing not closed when it is, the latch was a little sticky I cleaned and lubricated it (no help), I noticed when I push the button it pulls the trunk lid down before releasing it, but when I close it will not pull it down as it should.
almost like it’s opposite of what it should do

any ideas?

Yeah, if the soft-close does not complete, then the trunk is not actually closed, as far as the car's sensors are concerned.

Mine doesn't release properly. I can hit the button and it pops up but is still latched, so i still need the key to open it. UNLESS... it's below about 50 degrees F. out, and then it works properly, releases completely with the button. I've investigate replacing the latch, but I can deal with using the key for the several hundred dollars a used latch assembly costs. Your situation seems to be different, if it's no completing the soft-close, so you may not have a choice but to replace. I've seen videos of rebuilding those, but it's not something I want to tackle.

What happens if you help it by pushing down on the lid while it's closing?

Default Trunk actuator

Well the new actuator is doing the same as the old one did, worked great for about 2 hours, that was a waist of $500, any other ideas out there?

thanks

I'll bump this up, because I have a slightly different problem. After driving hard over a speed bump, the flap closing, fuel gauge and fuel filler opening stopped working. Any ideas what could connect these failures?

You already have a thread about this, although all you asked for there was which fuse, without actually describing the issue at all. Perhaps stay there and add useful information instead of hijacking another thread on a subject that's actually solved.

@Flex320

I somewhat suspect the REM. First, make sure you have a good battery, ~12.7 volts. Then ensure the ground near the REM is solid. One good check is to measure the voltage at the rear fuse box to make sure you're getting the same value as what you measured at the battery. If the voltage isn't the same, there is likely a bad ground somewhere. Do you see any signs of water ingress?

After I replaced the solenoid I checked the ground wire everything is clean and dry, I just tried to adjust the lock down adjusted it up thinking maybe it was to tight this it was releasing it, it appears flush and when pull up on the boot it’s tight and locked but still getting trunk open Indication.
