Default Trunk Soft Close Issues

Hi, I am having intermittent issues with the trunk soft close feature on my 04 XJR...Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...Other times it gets out of sync and closes down then back up...It seems when I move the rubber covered harness from the body to the lid it eventually it will work again...Is there a known issue of wires breaking in this area? Thanks

There is indeed an issue of wires breaking inside the trunk lid harness although I have been OK so far and I'm on my second X350. I always checked the harness was correctly secured by its securing clip, as this can come off and then the harness could suffer damage. Needless to say, the only way to find out is to strip out the harness and check it.

It does sound like a break in a wire and likely in the rubber section.
You can find it if you have some time and patience:

Push rubber cover to one end and secure with cable tie.
Select one wire and bend it in your fingers into a U bend.
Do this along the whole length of each wire.
If there is a break you may be able to feel it.
Cut out break and remake joint.

Thanks, I am guessing where the harness goes into the trunk lid is probably the most likely area to check for the break???

Remove the glow in the dark emergency pull handle from the release cable to give more free play. If there's even the slightest bit of tension on that cable, the soft touch feature gets disabled.
