after a few changes / updates along with some detailing work completed recently on the car, I noticed increasingly that the chrome louvres with a bit pitted and tired looking.

I decided after trying to clean them up and failing ( most of the look was down to small pit marks / stone chips and the like ) that they had to be renewed.

I started the search and came up with Adamesh for replacements at £59.99 PLUS £5.00 delivery, so £64.99 total, they looked good and would do the job.

I decided though to check further and found another source, a young embryonic Ebay shop, called Jagrange, they were £49.95 + FREE delivery
Better still using their website direct meant a price of £44.95 + FREE delivery, so £20.04 CHEAPER than Adamesh
Checking with Mark at Jagrange the parts are EXACTLY the same as from Adamesh, a no brainer.

So I took a gamble and ordered them yesterday, they arrived today, very well packed at 12.30pm.....all good.
Here's a few shots of the new parts, the old parts, new v old AND installed on the car........

Old parts on the car.......Ok so they don't look terrible from here, but they are stone chipped and pitted, losing their lustre.

Here's the new parts c/w 3m tape pre installed and in their protective packaging

Here's a better new v old picture, you can see the pitting / stone chips v the shine and clarity of the new part...

Here's the new ones on the car........

Removal of the old parts wasn't difficult, it was simply a case of very gently prying them away from the car, a little piece at a time.
The paintwork underneath was fine and un damaged, a quick clean up and left to dry for 10 mins then simply removed the 3m backing and carefully applied.......Job done.

The car was all washed and dried beforehand, wheels cleaned and tyres treated etc

Really makes a noticeable difference......for me anyway..lol

Thanks
Jim
Hi Jim,

Any thought of painting the old ones black to match the rest of the car? You could have two sets, one chrome and one black and then swap them out depending on your mood.

That's a really good thought Mike, unfortunately they're in the bin
I suppose I could've easily sanded them down, refurbished, duhhh, what was I thinking?
Could've been a serviceable spare for me or someone else, oh well.

To be fair the black originals are already there underneath in the event I wanted to remove these ones.

the CD changer? I have heard that can happen when it was very hot. Was the sun beating down on that side?

It may also be using a lens-cleaning disk, it has a small tuft of fibre which rubs dirt off the lens.

Wasn't particularly sunny / hot John, boot was full and perhaps some of the stuff edged over and hit the cover causing issues, resolved no anyway, but scary moments for a while....lol

Lol, hopefully Late October, maybe November, probably around 3-4 oil changers per year due to issues with fuel dumping into engine oil ( known issue )
No real hardship and not overly expensive for peace of mind

Is there physically anything under those silver side covers on the wings, Do they provide any service or are they purely for decoration?

Is there an indentation on the wing to ensure they sit in the correct position, or here is what I am really going for, would they fit on any model XJ8?

I have always wanted that Sovereign look.

With today's diesel price under 2.50 I wish they had been imported here.
Around town how is the acceleration?

Trosty - They just fit over the original mouldings on the car, perform no function as such.
They come with 3M tape already applied, simply remove the backing and attach its that simple, should fit on any model XJ8

They can be bought from Adamesh or from Ebay, usually around £50 the pair and a nice little mod

Panelhead - The std car comes with 204bhp and a 0-60 time of around 7.8 secs
Mine has been remapped taking it to 250bhp so a little quicker still, although the std car is no slouch for such a big car.
Suffice to say I've given a few boy racers in the their small 2.0 hot hatches a scare from time to time and on a long run, when driven carefully have seen 48.2mpg and managed 716 miles to a tank ( I think 850 would be possible )

Jim,

Do you happen to know how much torque the engine produces?

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don, its a Quantum remap, checking the documentation I find as follows

Std bhp 204
Remap bhp 250bhp
std torque 435Nm
Remap torque 556Nm

She was already a fairly quick cat for a diesel bearing in mind her size, the remap really helps liven her up even more

556Nm is 410 ft. lbs. of torque! Our '04 XJR is rated at "just" 399 ft. lbs., so I'm not surprised your car will get up and go!

Cheers,

Don
