Default Urgent..Help Needed !

I was backing out of a parking space and went to shift into drive, I think I stepped on the gas or something and now it is stuck in reverse. I had to leave it there. Isn't there a reset somewhere? It is an XJ8 2004.

I don't have a manual. I need very detailed instructions because I don't have a clue.

If the shifter does not click into gear as it used to, then i think one of the bolts that holds the shift cable to the transmission came out. you must crawl under the driver side and look at it. There are two bolts and possibly one came out. Thats what i thought of first.

Check the bolts that attach the shift lever cable to the transmission. Something like this happened to me on New Year's Eve. I started a thread about it - stuck in park and car wouldn't start.

Thanks ....I did this once to my Honda and there was a little place I could stick my key in and step on the brake simultaneously to unstick it. I would like to try the reset first..Do you know how to do that on a Jag XJ8?

I am a 64 year old woman and getting under the car to do the bolt would be difficult for me.

I appreciate your help. Of course, it is a holiday weekend to boot.

Hi
Look at this other forum thread on "stuck in reverse":

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...reverse-52885/

Here is the shifter cable diagram showing the 2 bolts that hold the cable in the proper position:

Here is weblink to the 2004 XJ Drivers Handbook:

It turned out the problem was caused by a paper clip that fell through the console. Damage :$200.00 :>)

Thank you for all your input. Much appreciated.

Whew! That's a heck of a fix. Glad you're back on the road.
