Default Water intrusion - specific clues

Hello all and Happy Holidays

My 2008 XJ8 is trying my patience again, this time a surprise intrusion of water. Granted, the rain was coming down literally for two days straight and at times, quite heavily. Never had any water issues for the 4 years I have owned the car. So this was the discovery.... I have a nice blanket in the back seat and I pulled it out to shake it out and fold it. My hand felt wetness on the blanket and I was like .. WTF!!!

The wet part had been sitting on top of the rear passenger seat (US model) and that rear seat was very wet.. where your butt cheeks would sit. Then after feeling all of the floors, the same rear passenger footwell was soaked. I read a bunch of forum entries on this and have some things to check, but can anyone comment on this specific situation's clues.

The head liner was not wet anywhere, the carpet on the back of the footwell that supports the back seat was not wet, the C-pillars inside were not wet. So my big curiosity is where was water coming from to soak the seat top. Maybe the water was running in from "somewhere" and the seat foam wicked it UP to the top of the seat and then some ran down into the footwell? I can only consider that as a reasonable explanation because if it was dripping down from the headliner or door seal ONTO the top of the seat, I would have expected to feel other areas ABOVE IT wet.

Anyway... thanks for any thoughts you have on this....

Randy

Believe all of the Jaguars imported into the US have the sun roof.

Ha ha yes! I rambled and forgot the most important fact.

My sunroof is broken so never use it. A bit junky but I just taped the channel over so next big rain that rules out the leaky roof.

I inspected all the door seals, etc and on the aliminum door rain channel, a couple spots of missing seal which I can clear caulk.

Oh well... Thanks for reply.

The sunroof seal is not meant to be waterproof.
Park the car in a downhill open the roof and try if water drains trough the front drain hoses endind up in the front wheel well.
then the other way around to try the rear drain hoses. By pouring water into the canal of the sounroof.
those go through the left and right side boot behind the carpet trim com8ng out of the C pillar going into the wheel well

So... I am still pondering this. Let's say I have clogged rear subroof drains. Where does the water go?

For example, does it overflow the channel, run along the headliner and work its way down an inner C pillar to seat bottom and floor?

And if so, does that imply the head liner "inside" is waterproof somehow.. like a plastic-ish pan with outer felt?

I ask because I felt no wetness at all on the headliner or inner C pillar.

Just curious since I never pulled this headliner

clogged drain runs down the biscuit. you need to reseal the door plate and the one under the window trim

when you open the boot and take the side carpet out you can see the drain hoses right and left above the airstruts up in the end of the C pillar
